Iranian news outlets circulated photos and video footage of a column of black smoke rising into the sky north of the capital, Tehran.Iran’s regular military and its paramilitary Revolutionary Guard operate several factories across the country, many of which produce civilian goods.Iran has seen a series of fires and other mishaps in its military facilities over the years, and often accuses its archenemy Israel of sabotage. Last month, Iran said Israel tried to sabotage its ballistic missile program through faulty foreign parts that could explode.Iran has been under heavy Western sanctions for several years that prevent it from importing a range of machinery and replacement parts, forcing it to build its own...Kari Lake, prominent Trump supporter and election denier, will launch US Senate campaign in Arizona

PHOENIX (AP) — Republican Kari Lake, a Donald Trump ally who has refused to acknowledge her loss in last year’s race for Arizona governor, will soon launch her campaign for the U.S. Senate seat held by independent Kyrsten Sinema, a senior adviser said Thursday.Lake’s entrance in one of next year’s top Senate contests likely complicates Republican efforts to nominate candidates with a broader appeal after a disappointing showing for the party in last year’s midterms. She will enter the race as the front-runner for the GOP nomination. Caroline Wren, a senior adviser to Lake, confirmed that she will open her campaign with an Oct. 10 rally. The Wall Street Journal first reported the news.A charismatic former television anchor who is well known in the Phoenix market, Lake built an enthusiastic following among Republicans with her unflinching support for Trump and her steadfast promotion of false claims of election fraud. CHICAGO — A day care in Bucktown has been using sign language to amplify communication skills in infants and toddlers. The Learning Experience, located in the 2600 block of North Jones Street, starts teaching American Sign Language to infants as early as 6 weeks old."Everything has to do with repetition," said teacher Jessica Zaragoza. "The more frequently the teachers are doing it, they start picking up everything we do, everything we role model in the classrooms, they starting picking up and doing at home. So why not teach them sign language if it’s an easier way for them to communicate with us?"Obviously, 6-week-old infants are not going to pick up ASL right away, but since babies are "sponges," the signs come easier for them later on."We start very simple like 'milk' and 'mom and dad,'" Zaragoza told WGN News. "You don't see it automatically, but over time they start signing and we start seeing their fine motor skills develop."Toddlers aren't known as the best for conflict resolu...See the Haunted Houses in the Chicago area in 2023

The Ojai City Council voted to adopt the ordinance introduced by Councilmember Leslie Rule (District 1) and developed with the Nonhuman Rights Project (NhRP) by a vote of 4-1 on Tuesday night. The ordinance defines and protects elephants’ rights to liberty, NhRP said in a press release. “It’s indisputable that elephants suffer when deprived of their freedom and that animal welfare laws can’t end their suffering,” said NhRP Director of Government Relations and Campaigns Courtney Fern. “For elephants and the nonhuman animal rights movement, we are proud to support this first-of-its-kind ordinance and we commend the Ojai City Council for standing up for what is necessary and just.” California official submits proposal to have new national monument near Joshua Tree National Park Elephants have been found to be quite similar to humans; they are ...State police investigating fatal Johnstown crash
