SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Renowned civil rights attorney John Burris was hired by the family of Banko Brown, who was allegedly shot and killed by a Walgreens security guard in San Francisco. Burris' office said that he will review evidence, but there is no word as to whether a lawsuit will be filed. Burris' office confirmed the news to KRON4 Thursday night. He is currently gathering evidence and is hopeful that San Francisco Brookie Jenkins will release video of the shooting to him. No plea deals for alleged Jasper Wu killers, Alameda County DA says Brown, 24, who identified as a transgender man, was shot and killed in the area of 4th and Market streets on April 27. The security guard, 33-year-old Michael Earl-Wayne Anthony, was arrested after the killing. However, Anthony was released from jail after Jenkins confirmed that she will not be charging him with murder, citing self-defense. “The evidence clearly shows that the suspect believed he was in mortal danger and acted in self-d...Pavelski scores again, Stars beat Kraken 4-2 to even series

DALLAS (AP) — Joe Pavelski scored his fifth goal in two games since returning from concussion protocol with an assist from Wyatt Johnston, his 19-year-old rookie housemate who also scored a goal, and the Dallas Stars beat Seattle 4-2 on Thursday night to tie the second-round series at a game each. Evgenii Dadonov added a nifty wraparound goal and Tyler Seguin scored for the Stars, who like in their first-round series against Minnesota bounced back from an overtime loss at home in the opener to get even before hitting the road. Game 3 is Sunday night in Seattle. Tye Kartye and Jordan Eberle had goals for the Kraken. Johnston, who has lived with Pavelski’s family this season, set up his mentor’s power-play goal when he initially whiffed at the puck before whipping around and sending it into the laid-out stick of goaltender Philipp Grubauer. Pavelski was there for the rebound and put the Stars up 3-1 with 3:03 left in the middle period. Pavelski scored all four Stars goals ...Expulsan a dos turistas extranjeros por intentar tomarse fotografías desnudos en Machu Picchu

ENCINITAS, Calif. -- Beaches in Encinitas and Solana Beach will soon get wider. U.S. Representative Mike Levin announced he secured $30.5 million in federal funding for a sand replenishment project. The goal is to create wide sandy beaches so there is more room to play and use recreationally, and also help the bluffs by creating a buffer to protect against coastal erosion. The sand replenishment project is part of the coastal storm reduction damage project that has been in the making for 20 years, according to local elected officials."Looking at our beaches and our shoreline today, you do have to wonder, so this project is in the nick of time," Encinitas Mayor Tony Kranz said. The $30.5 million will be used to replenish sand along 7,800 feet of shoreline in Encinitas, then another 7,200 feet in Solana Beach."Which is so important to our recreation, to our beautiful beaches, to the public safety to preserving the infrastructure that is important to all of our daily lives. SAN DIEGO -- As Title 42 ends on May 11, a surge of migrants are expected at the U.S.-Mexico Border, and local migrants rights advocates, immigration attorneys and San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria are calling on Congress to step in.“The City will continue to support the County, which is developing a plan to address impacts on our communities," Gloria said in a statement to FOX 5 Thursday. "I have met directly with Customs and Border Protection in Washington D.C. and in San Diego to articulate the City’s concern that we simply don’t have the resources to address an influx of migrants and need significant support to address the looming crisis at the Southwestern border. Ultimately, the only real solution is for Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform that constructively addresses this issue and ends this cycle of crises that have a profound impact on American cities.” Immigration Attorney Andrew Nietor says the situation on the border is "characteriz...8 fatally shot in Serbia a day after deadly school shooting

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Three fired police officers who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges in the death of an 8-year-old girl killed when they opened fire outside a high school football game near Philadelphia are set to be sentenced Friday. Former Sharon Hill officers Brian Devaney, Devon Smith and Sean Dolan have pleaded guilty to 10 counts each of reckless endangerment. Investigators say they could not determine which officer fired the shot that killed Fanta Bility on Aug. 27, 2021. The charge carries a maximum term of up to two years in prison in Pennsylvania.Prosecutors contend the officers negligently fired 25 shots at a car they mistakenly thought was involved in gunfire that broke out as spectators left the football game in 2021. Devaney was not wearing a body camera, and the other two officers did not turn their cameras on, investigators found.Bility had attended the game at Academy Park High School with her mother and an older sister who was also shot but survived. PHOENIX (AP) — American bars and restaurants gear up every year for Cinco de Mayo, offering special deals on Mexican food and alcoholic drinks for the May 5 holiday that is barely celebrated south of the border. In the United States, the date is largely seen as a celebration of Mexican American culture stretching back to the 1800s in California. Typical festivities include parades, street food, block parties, mariachi competitions and baile folklórico, or folkloric ballet, with whirling dancers wearing shiny ribbons and braids and bright, ruffled dresses. For Americans with or without Mexican ancestry, the day has become an excuse to toss back tequila shots with salt and lime and gorge on tortilla chips smothered with melted orange cheddar that’s unfamiliar to most people in Mexico. That’s brought some criticism of the holiday, especially as beer manufacturers and other marketers have capitalized on its festive nature and some revelers embrace offensive stereotypes, such...Ballet benefit held for 5 teen dancers injured in violent Seal Beach hit-and-run

A special benefit performance was held Thursday night in Long Beach for five ballet dancers severely injured in a violent hit-and-run crash in February that was captured on surveillance cameras. Footage released by the Seal Beach Police Department showed the moment a man in a gold 1987 Mercedes Benz 300 blew through a red light on Pacific Coast Highway and Main Street on Feb. 11, striking the sedan carrying five teenage girls. All five of the girls, members of Premier Dance Arts of Los Alamitos, had been dancing together earlier in the day and were on the way to a dinner reservation when they were hit. After the crash, they were all rushed to the hospital. Four of the girls had been knocked unconscious by the sheer force of the impact. Thursday night’s benefit performance in the auditorium at Millikan High School was hosted by Los Alamitos Ballet Theater and titled “Ballet in Bloom.” The funds raised at the event will help to offset medical and recovery ex...Latest news
