DENVER (KDVR) — It's been a mild start to December this year. But in 1913, record amounts of snow fell in the metro. During Dec. 1-5, 1913, an upslope flow helped to bring in gulf moisture that led to heavy snowfall. Temperatures remained around 32 degrees, which added to the ingredients needed to create heavy, wet snow, which is not typical for December. Denver recorded 45.7 inches of snowfall from the event, setting a new record for most snow from one snowfall event. Snowfall totals were higher in Georgetown and Estes Park, reporting 86 inches and 53 inches of snowfall, respectively. The Dec. 1-5, 1913 snowstorm still holds the record for most snowfall from a single event in Denver. DENVER (KDVR) -- The holidays are prime time for porch pirates to find stealable packages in any neighborhood. A porch pirate was caught stealing packages off a porch in Wheat Ridge Tuesday night, causing police to issue a citation. Colorado law enforcement agencies on lookout for DUIs this holiday season According to the Wheat Ridge Police Department, the man was suspected of stealing packages off a porch near 37th Place and Fenton Street.With the help of a translator, WRPD said the officer got consent to search the suspect's car and found two packages inside, both of which belonged to the person who reported the theft. DENVER (KDVR) -- A Westminster Police Department K-9 has retired after six years of service on the force. K-9 Bono started his career in November 2017.He completed a 12-week academy and was trained in patrol, tracking, narcotics and evidence recovery, according to a release from Westminster police. Bono worked with several different groups during his career, including patrol, SWAT and even the U.S. Postal Service. 3 Colorado towns ranked among the coziest in the US He was deployed over 300 times and had 43 apprehensions and 80 surrenders, including 11 homicide suspects. "It is easy to see that K-9 Bono has served both his fellow officers and the citizens of Westminster with great pride and dedication, all for his favorite toy," the release said.His handler, Mark Cressman, was also recently promoted to sergeant. Two people were stabbed and a third person was also taken to a hospital in an incident in Dedham Wednesday, police said. Dedham police in a statement said officers first responded to the scene on Jackson Pond Road around 6 p.m. Once on scene, police said, officers found two female victims with stab wounds. In addition to the female victims, police said a “male party believed to be involved in this incident” was also taken to a local hospital. No further information was immediately available on the extent of the injuries. LAS VEGAS (AP) — Three people were shot to death and a fourth critically wounded Wednesday in an attack at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas that sent shock waves through a city still scarred by the deaths of 60 people in a 2017 shooting only a few miles away on the famous Strip. The suspected shooter also was found dead.The attack at about 11:45 a.m. sent police swarming onto the campus while students and professors barricaded themselves inside classrooms and dorm rooms.Authorities gave the all-clear about 40 minutes after the first report of an active shooter. LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said three victims are dead and one is in stable condition at a local hospital following a shooting on UNLV's campus Wednesday.The suspect is an older, white man in his 60s, two sources told the 8 News Now Investigators. Those sources said the shooter recently applied for a job at the university and was denied. A 42-year-old is dead following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 427 in Vaughan.Provincial police say the northbound lanes of the highway were closed between Highway 407 and Highway 7 around 6 p.m. Wednesday following the crash.Aerial footage of the scene shows the car pointed in the opposite direction of the traffic flow, suggesting that the vehicle may have been traveling in the wrong direction when it hit the concrete abutment at the base of a light pole.
