LOS ANGELES (AP) — One swing of Freddie Freeman’s bat changed everything for the Los Angeles Dodgers.Coming off a 2-4 road trip, the Dodgers were in danger of losing a fourth consecutive series until Freeman singled to deep center field with the bases loaded in the 11th inning, giving them a 5-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night.“A series win is huge, you can build off those,” Freeman said. “It’s good to be home and good to play some good baseball the last couple days.”Chris Taylor was the designated runner at second base to start the 11th. He took third on a passed ball by Yasmani Grandal. Miguel Rojas walked and Mookie Betts drew a 12-pitch walk against Garrett Crochet (0-1) to set up Freeman, who had been hitless in the series.Luis Robert Jr. was playing in shallow center and never moved a muscle on Freeman’s winning hit that landed on the warning track.“I knew I hit it good enough,” Freeman said. The teams combined for 32 strikeouts — most in an MLB...Stock market today: Asian shares track Wall Street rally, Tokyo’s benchmark at 33-year high

BANGKOK (AP) — Asian shares logged moderate gains on Friday after Wall Street benchmarks swept higher, extending their longest rally in a year and a half. Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 index closed at a 33-year high, advancing 0.7% to 33,706.08 after the Bank of Japan wrapped up a policy meeting by keeping its ultra-lax monetary stance unchanged, as expected. It is a standout among central banks, most of which have sought to rein in inflation by raising interest rates. The key Japanese rate has stayed at minus 0.1% for a decade and policymakers have indicated they are not convinced that current inflation, which finally has surpassed the BOJ’s target of about 2%, will be sustained. “With extremely high uncertainties surrounding economies and financial markets at home and abroad, the Bank will patiently continue with monetary easing while nimbly responding to developments in economic activity and prices as well as financial conditions,” the BOJ said in a statement.Share prices in Japan hav...Angels winning despite aches and pains; Rendon among injured infielders

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Anthony Rendon couldn’t even swing a bat, but he played the entire game for the ailing Los Angeles Angels.Rendon’s left hand got swollen after the oft-injured third baseman was hit by a pitch in the first inning Thursday night against Texas, just before first baseman Gio Urshela jammed his hip and knee on an awkward fall when trying to beat out an inning-ending double play. “Get out of here before somebody else gets hurt,” manager Phil Nevin said after his team won 5-3 to take three of four games from the AL West-leading Rangers. Even before the series finale, the Angels put rookie shortstop Zach Neto on the 10-day injured list with an oblique strain. He felt discomfort and was removed after playing only one inning Wednesday night. Nevin said Urshela was “hurting pretty good” and on crutches after Thursday night’s game and would be evaluated when the team got to Kansas City for the start of a series Friday. ROME (AP) — Pope Francis on Friday was discharged from the Rome hospital where he had abdominal surgery nine days earlier to repair a hernia and remove painful scarring, with his surgeon saying the pontiff is now “better than before” the hospitalization. Francis, 86, left through Gemelli Polyclinic’s main exit in a wheelchair, smiling and waving and saying “thanks” to a crowd of well-wishers, then stood up so he could get into the small Vatican car awaiting him. In the brief distance before he could reach the white Fiat 500, reporters thrust microphones practically at his face, and the pontiff seemed to bat them away, good-naturedly.“The pope is well. He’s better than before,” Dr. Sergio Alfieri, the surgeon who did the three-hour operation on June 7 told reporters after he said goodbye to Francis as the pontiff got into the car. Following the surgery, Francis will be a “strong pope,” said Alfieri, who along with the crowd surged toward the exitin...Police say 5 suspected militants killed in gunfight with Indian troops in disputed Kashmir

SRINAGAR, India (AP) — Indian soldiers killed five suspected militants in a gunfight along the highly militarized de-facto frontier in disputed Kashmir, police said Friday. The gunfight began early Friday after a joint team of police and army soldiers carried out an counterinsurgency operation in northwestern Kupwara district along the so-called Line of Control dividing the Himalayan region between nuclear-armed rivals Pakistan and India, police said in a post on Twitter.
