Three-vehicle collision leaves one dead in Brampton

The Caledon division of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal collision that left a motorcyclist dead in the Hurontario Street and Mayfield Road area of Brampton on Saturday.Caledon OPP responded to reports of a three-vehicle crash just before 2:00 p.m, where a 20-year-old motorcyclist from Woodstock was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre. Her was later pronounced deceased.The OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Reconstructionists have assisted with the investigation that is ongoing. PHOENIX (AP) — A body has been found on the grounds of the Arizona State Capitol in Phoenix for the second time in less than two weeks, according to authorities.Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said the body was discovered Monday morning in the west parking lot of the Capitol.Public Safety officials are working to identify the body and how it ended up at the Capitol’s premises.On July 26, another body was found outside the Capitol by Phoenix police. DPS, which has jurisdiction over state Capitol property, is investigating that case as well. (AP) — A man in southwest Florida has been charged with flooding a hospital’s emergency rooms after attacking a nurse and stripping off his clothes, authorities said.The 53-year-old became agitated while in a waiting room at the North Collier Hospital in Naples, Florida, on Saturday, according to a report from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.He barged into the emergency room, pushed a patient and then pushed a nurse in the head. After the hospital staff got him into a room in an effort to keep him from disturbing other patients, he took off his clothes and pulled a high-pressure water pipe from the wall, the report said.The hospital’s emergency rooms flooded, causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage, according to the report.Responding deputies subdued the man using a Taser after he threatened them, and he was taken into custody. (AP) — A Detroit woman is suing the city and a police officer, saying she was falsely arrested when she was eight months pregnant and accused of a carjacking based on facial recognition technology that is now the target of lawsuits filed by three Black Michigan residents.Porcha Woodruff, a 32-year-old Black woman, was preparing her two children for school on Feb. 16 when six Detroit police officers showed up at her house and presented her with an arrest warrant for robbery and carjacking, according to a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on Thursday. “My two children had to witness their mother being arrested,” Woodruff said. “They stood there crying as I was brought away.”Woodruff’s case was dismissed by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office in March for insufficient evidence, according to the lawsuit. NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are climbing Monday as Wall Street regains momentum following a pause in its big rally for the year so far.The S&P 500 was 0.8% higher in late trading to recover about a third of its loss from last week. That was its first losing week in four and just its third in the last 12. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 404 points, or 1.2%, at 35,469, as of 3 p.m. Eastern time. The Nasdaq composite was 0.4% higher. Berkshire Hathaway rose 3.9% and was a major force lifting the market after the company run by famed investor Warren Buffett reported stronger profit and revenue for the spring than analysts expected.
