SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle’s Community Police Commission on Wednesday recommended that the city’s police chief suspend without pay an officer under investigation for making callous remarks about the death of a woman from India who was struck by a police SUV in a crosswalk.The 21-member commission and its three appointed co-chairs also requested that Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz “immediately engage in a workgroup” with the commission, the Office of Police Accountability and the Office of Inspector General to “address repeated concerns with the culture of policing and police practices” in his department, The Seattle Times reported.The letter calls on Diaz to suspend Officer Daniel Auderer, the vice president of the Seattle Police Officers Guild. Toronto police are responding to a confirmed shooting in Scarborough that involved tow truck drivers chasing one another.Authorities were called to the Middlefield Road and McCowan Road area at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday for reports of shots fired in the area.Police said multiple tow truck drivers were “chasing another” and that a firearm was discharged. CHICAGO — Bridgeport residents banded together Wednesday night to rescue a cat sitting on power lines.Neighbors came together in the 3300 block of South May to rescue the cat. CHICAGO — The City of Chicago is taking Monsanto to court for allegedly contaminating its waterways. The lawsuit claims the agrochemical business, three of its corporate successors and a local distributor released polychlorinated biphenyls into the city's air, water and soil for years. UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. – Some residents living near the shuttered Seafood City supermarket began noticing a pungent odor recently. They shared their concerns with University City officials. Building inspectors pinpointed the stench to the market on Olive Boulevard and discovered thousands of pounds of fish were left behind.“This is disgusting and irresponsible,” former customer Lolita Paiwonsky said.After the discovery, city officials immediately contacted the California property owner about the public health hazard. WENTZVILLE, Mo. – On Wednesday, General Motors said the Wentzville strike is impacting other assembly plants across the region, causing them to lay off 2,000 employees at a plant in Fairfax, Kansas."I do know that with us, we have a staffing part of our plant that does make parts for other plants,” Victor Dollison said. “So, I think our president does know what kind of affect that will have.
