Miami-Dade Fire Rescue successfully extinguished a two-alarm fire that broke out at a recycling plant in Northwest Miami-Dade, despite facing challenging circumstances.The fire department received the emergency call just before 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, prompting a deployment of fire units to the scene at the 3700 block of Northwest North River Drive. According to fire officials, the blaze broke out at Ferrous Processing & Trading Co Miami, a prominent scrap metal processing and recycling facility. Fire rescue crews faced a challenge as the sole fire hydrant was across railroad tracks nearby. As a result, authorities were forced to strategically halt train traffic on the railroad tracks, allowing firefighters access to a fire hydrant crucial for controlling the flames.Cellphone footage showed the scene from Miami International Airport as smoke billowed from the facility. An investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed in Miami.Officers with the Miami Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Northwest Sixth Street and Northwest Fifth Avenue, just before 11:00 a.m., Wednesday. U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) officials repatriated 56 migrants to Cuba, Tuesday, following multiple interdictions off the Florida Keys. Fifty-six Cubans trying to enter the U.S. illegally were onboard a vessel. They received food, water, shelter and basic medical attention before being repatriated back to Cuba, Tuesday.USCG made multiple interceptions between December 26 and 29. “As we enter the new year, the Coast Guard and our Homeland Security Task Force-Southeast partners remain committed to patrolling the Florida Straits, Windward and Mona Passages to prevent and deter unlawful entry into the U.S. by sea,” said USCG Lt. Cmdr. John W. Beal in a press release. Coast Guard crews repatriated 235 migrants to Cuba in fiscal year 2024, which began on Oct. 1, 2023.“Migrants attempting to circumvent lawful pathways to enter the United States by sea will be rescued and repatriated to their country of origin or departure. Two employees avoided serious injuries after a pickup truck ended up lodged inside a business in Maynard late Wednesday morning.The owner of Christmas Motors, Dave Christmas, told 7NEWS it was a Ford F-150 that ended up taking out the front door of his business and came within feet of his secretary – a crash he said he was lucky not to be in the middle of.“Normally, I’m in that seat – which, of course, I’d probably be dead – and my beautiful Golden is in that doorway, watching people come in and out, and he would have been gone,” Christmas told 7NEWS, pointing to the debris left from the crash. “I was right down the street and my secretary Danielle called, screaming ‘A car just went through the building!’ and I said ‘What!?
