Published Tue, 18 Feb 2025 21:08:04 GMT

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Let’s look on the bright side for the Philadelphia Eagles.Yes, they’ve lost two straight games, against two of the NFC’s best teams. Yes, they’ve been sloppy. Yes, confidence has waned in Philly that the Eagles can return to the Super Bowl. Yes, the entire coaching staff is getting second-guessed.The good news is this: Through all the slop of the last two weeks, the Eagles can still win the NFC East. Oh, and the No. 1 overall seed in the conference is still in play, though they need help to get there. The Eagles followed a home blowout loss to San Francisco with a beatdown defeat at Dallas. The 33-13 loss gave the Eagles a series split with the Cowboys and put both teams at 10-3. As of Monday, the Eagles are the No. 5 seed in the NFC. Not great for a team that was 10-1 two weeks ago.The Eagles went 2-2 during a challenging stretch that included wins over Kansas City and Buffalo. The schedule just may get the Eagles back to the top spot thanks to games agains...

Justin Jefferson could play for the Vikings this week after a chest injury from a hard hit

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson avoided internal injury from the airborne hit he took while catching a pass that cut short his return to action and has a “good chance” to play this week, coach Kevin O’Connell said Monday. After missing seven games with a hamstring strain, Jefferson was sidelined again Sunday at Las Vegas when he went high for a 15-yard completion in the second quarter and was smacked hard from the side by Raiders safety Marcus Epps. Jefferson immediately clutched his lower back, jogged gingerly off the field for a breather and wound up in the blue medical tent for closer examination. The Vikings wound up sending him to a hospital as a precaution for further testing after what they announced as a chest injury.Jefferson, the 2022 AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year, flew home with the team after the 3-0 victory. O’Connell said Jefferson’s status is considered day to day. The Vikings play Saturday at Cincinnati.“He’...

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israel’s defense minister on Monday pushed back against international calls to wrap up the country’s military offensive in the Gaza Strip, saying the current phase of the operation against the Hamas militant group will “take time.”Yoav Gallant, a member of Israel’s three-man war cabinet, remained unswayed by a growing chorus of criticism over the widespread damage and heavy civilian death toll caused by the two-month military campaign. The U.N. secretary-general and leading Arab states have called for an immediate cease-fire. The United States has urged Israel to reduce civilian casualties, though it has provided unwavering diplomatic and military support.Israel launched the campaign after Hamas militants stormed across its southern border on Oct. 7, killing some 1,200 people and kidnapping about 240 others. Two months of airstrikes, coupled with a fierce ground invasion, have resulted in the deaths of over 17,000 Palestinians, according to health officials in...

Delaware Supreme Court says out-of-state convictions don’t bar expungement of in-state offenses

Published Tue, 18 Feb 2025 21:08:04 GMT

DOVER, Del. (AP) — A divided Delaware Supreme Court has reversed a lower court’s denial of expungement applications filed by three men because of their convictions in other states. In a 3-2 decision issued Friday, the Supreme Court said a Superior Court judge erred last year in ruling that the men were ineligible for expungement of their Delaware convictions because they also had out-of-state convictions. The case involves a 2019 law that expanded eligibility for expungement of criminal records. One provision notes that the law applies “to all criminal cases brought and convictions entered in a court in this state.” The law also says a person is eligible for expungement only if he or she has “no prior or subsequent convictions,” except for traffic offenses, simple possession of marijuana or underage possession of alcohol. The Superior Court ruled that the prohibition on prior or subsequent convictions included out-of-state convictions. The Democratic majority on the Supreme Court disag...

Colorado Auditor: Lottery sales model produced 'unusual winning patterns'

DENVER (KDVR) -- The Colorado State Auditor's Office is raising concerns about how the current courier sales model might produce unusual winning patterns.Courier services allow Colorado Lottery players to order game tickets through a mobile app. The services were allowed to start operations in 2019, but the courier sales model does not clarify who is selling the tickets or where they are being sold. Pueblo lottery player wins $5 million jackpot In Fiscal Year 2022, one retailer associated with a courier sold $12.6 million of lottery tickets — five times higher than the next highest-selling retailer in the state, according to the auditor's office.According to the Colorado Lottery, a courier service purchases tickets in person on the player's behalf at a licensed brick-and-mortar store and sends a digital image of the ticket to the player, or sends the tickets in the mail. All couriers are third-party services and are not affiliated with the Colorado Lottery. Couriers are not licen...

Forest Service secures public access to Colorado's Mount Democrat summit

DENVER (KDVR) -- One of Colorado's famous 14ers will remain accessible to hikers and climbers, thanks to the purchase of nearly 300 acres leading to Mount Democrat in Colorado's Mosquito Range. Some of Colorado's 14,000-foot peaks are difficult to access because of private land ownership, but the purchase of this area by The Conservation Fund and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Forest Service eliminates liability concerns and expands recreational opportunities in the area, according to a USDA release. These Colorado locations have the best chance for a white Christmas The area has been closed off and on over the years due to private ownership and concerns of liability.“Protecting one of America’s tallest mountains and its headwaters for all to enjoy is an honor of a lifetime for us,” said Kelly Ingebritson, Colorado project manager at The Conservation Fund, in a release about the land acquisition. “We are thrilled to celebrate this achievement – which was made possible by the...

Denver International Airport cargo employees to strike over safety concerns

DENVER (KDVR) -- Cargo workers at Denver International Airport announced they will be striking Monday morning. Swissport employees who load and handle essential packages and freight at DIA said they delivered the strike notice Sunday night. Striking workers say their main complaint is unsafe working conditions. Where and when Colorado roads will be most congested this holiday season According to Swissport’s website, the company has provided airport ground services and managed a modern air cargo warehouse at DIA since 2006. A Swissport Cargo Agent said anything that's coming into Denver for Amazon by air comes through Swissport and anything that's leaving Denver by air for Amazon comes through them as well. Workers say they are striking due to faulty and broken equipment, dangerous working temperatures at facilities, and inadequate safety training. They say the conditions are preventing them from making sure packages are delivered on time.Andrew Guttman hasn’t worked for Swiss...

Gigantic new ICBM means nuclear silo overhauls, including in Colorado

Published Tue, 18 Feb 2025 21:08:04 GMT

F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. (AP) — The control stations for America’s nuclear intercontinental ballistic missiles have a sort of 1980s retro look, with computing panels in sea foam green, bad lighting and chunky control switches, including a critical one that says “launch.” Those underground capsules are about to be demolished and the missile silos they control will be completely overhauled. A new nuclear missile is coming, a gigantic ICBM called the Sentinel. It's the largest cultural shift in the land leg of the Air Force's nuclear missile mission in 60 years. Colorado Auditor: Lottery sales model produced ‘unusual winning patterns’ But there are questions as to whether some of the Cold War-era aspects of the Minuteman missiles that the Sentinel will replace should be changed. Making the silo-launched missile more modern, with complex software and 21st-century connectivity across a vast network, may also mean it's more vulnerable. The Sentinel will need to be well protecte...
