MARTINEZ — Two Concord men have been arrested and charged in federal court with transporting seven pounds of methamphetamine allegedly found during a traffic stop here earlier this month, court records show.Heriberto Gomez-Gutierrez and Salvador Gomez-Gutierrez were each charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, a federal offense that carries up to 20 years in prison and a lifetime of supervised release. Both men were released on $25,000 bonds after a May 26 court appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kandis Westmore, court records show.According to the criminal complaint, the Drug Enforcement Administration had been investigating both men for suspected drug trafficking and secretly installed a tracking device on their Toyota Camry. SAN JOSE — An inmate attacked two correctional deputies Sunday evening at Santa Clara County Main Jail with a knife, sending the deputies to the hospital with moderate injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.The sheriff’s office said the man exited his cell in the 6B wing at 7:22 p.m. Sunday and assaulted the two deputies with a “jail-made knife,” kicking off the “shocking and unprovoked” attack. The ensuing physical struggle went to the ground, where the two deputies restrained the man with help from other deputies.The two deputies were transported to a hospital, where they were treated for lacerations and punctures to their hands and shoulders. An Connecticut bakery said that its employees were safe but the cupcakes were not when a bear confronted an employee of the sweet shop and chowed down on 60 of its cupcakes.Taste by Spellbound, a retail coffee and bakery shop that serves a variety of cupcakes, with flavors ranging from berry spring floral — not to be confused with bear spring floral — and oreo milkshake, has shops in Avon, South Windsor and West Hartford.The opening of the bakery’s South Windsor shop was delayed on Wednesday morning after the bear charged a worker at the Avon bakery, destroying 60 cupcakes and a bunch of coconut cake.Owner Miriam Taylor said that the shop has a loading garage in the back of the Avon shop. (KRON) -- The man accused of stabbing and killing Cash App founder Bob Lee was back in a San Francisco courtroom on Tuesday morning, and his attorney filed a motion to withdraw from the case. One dead in encampment shooting near Hwy-87 in San Jose Nima Momeni, 38, of Emeryville is currently being held without the option for bail on one count of murder. Momeni's attorney, Paula Canny, filed a motion to withdraw for a conflict of interest, and she says she is legally barred from sharing what that conflict is. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A suspect in a homicide that occurred in broad daylight in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood last month has been arrested, according to the San Francisco Police Department. The incident occurred on April 1, at around 1 p.m. when officers from the SFPD Tenderloin Station responded to a report of a shooting in the 200 block of Golden Gate Avenue. One dead in shooting near Hwy-87 in San Jose Arriving at the scene, officers found a 52-year-old man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers rendered aid and summoned medics to the scene. The victim was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite efforts from medical personnel, the victim succumbed to his injuries, police said.SFPD Homicide Detail investigators responded to the scene and took over the investigation. (AP) — Coastal Carolina coach Gary Gilmore, who led the Chanticleers to the 2016 College World Series title, said he’ll retire after the 2024 season and expects to turn the program over to longtime assistant Kevin Schnall.Gilmore has led the Coastal Carolina baseball program for the past 28 years. His team is seeded 10th nationally in the NCAA Tournament and will host a four-team regional starting Friday.Gilmore, 65, has been treated for pancreatic cancer the past three years. He said his cancer, which has spread to his liver, is manageable and he feels strong enough to continue coaching through next season.Schnall has coached at Coastal Carolina for 20 years in two different stints, the last starting in 2016 when the team won its national championship.
