A woman appeared in court Wednesday to face charges in connection with allegations from prosecutors that she drove a US Postal Service truck while under the influence. Meghan Scanlon was arrested and charged with OUI liquor, OUI drugs and negligent operation of a motor vehicle after police in Lynn said they found a damaged postal truck in the Lynn Common near Hanover Street on June 8. Just under a week later, Scanlon, 31, pleaded not guilty to charges.Prosecutors said Scanlon was following her Waze GPS when she crashed her truck into the Lynn Common, clipping trees and taking out a sign. Prosecutors said Scanlon’s blood alcohol content level was then measured at .28 percent when she was arrested, three times the legal limit. One prosecutor in court said Scanlon “exhibited multiple signs of impairment and performed poorly on a field sobriety test, according to Lynn police officers.” Officers, according to the prosecution, found 12 empty Smirnoff nips in Scanlon’s backpa...Grand jury votes to indict Marine veteran who held homeless man in fatal chokehold on NYC subway

(CNN) — A Manhattan grand jury has voted to indict Daniel Penny, the Marine veteran who held Jordan Neely in a fatal chokehold on the New York City subway, according to a source with knowledge of the case. Penny, 24, was indicted on second-degree manslaughter charges. The Manhattan District Attorney is expected to formally announce the grand jury’s indictment, which is under seal, on Thursday.Penny surrendered to police last month to face a second-degree manslaughter charge. He has since been out on a $100,000 bond. Penny held Neely, a homeless man and street artist, in a chokehold on the subway train May 1 after Neely began shouting at passengers that he was hungry and thirsty and didn’t care whether he died. Penny forced 30-year-old Neely to the train floor and restrained him in a chokehold until he stopped breathing. A medical examiner ruled Neely’s death a homicide. CNN has reached out to Penny’s attorneys and the attorneys representing Ne...Trump sees no slide in support after indictment

The base is sticking with former President Donald Trump. Both fundraising and polling conducted after his indictment over his alleged mishandling of highly classified state secrets suggest support for the 45th president on the Republican side.“Since deranged Jack Smith took the unprecedented step of weaponizing the justice system to attack his political opponent, Donald J. Trump for President 2024 has raised more than $6.6 million in just a few short days,” his campaign declared Wednesday evening. That includes over $4.5 million from digital fundraising, with an additional $2.1 million from Trump’s event at his Bedminster, N.J., golf club Tuesday night. The former president was perhaps temporarily shocked into silence after his historic arrest and processing for 37 federal felony charges Tuesday. About 16 hours later Trump would echo his campaign’s fundraising assertions, thanking — one assumes sarcastically — the people he claims are behind the indictment...Yankees Notebook: Clay Holmes on another dominant run after early season struggles

When Clay Holmes endured a few rough outings early in the season, neither he nor his manager panicked. The Yankees reliever allowed seven earned runs over his first 10 innings while adding two losses and two blown saves. After commandeering the Yankees’ closing role last season, the stretch hardly met expectations. But Aaron Boone pointed out that a some of those appearances featured poor luck, and Holmes felt close to being the pitcher who earned his first All-Star nod with 29 straight scoreless outings last season.“I was giving up some runs, but deep down, there was still some confidence,” Holmes said Tuesday. “I knew kind of where I was at, and that things were kind of going to turn, so it’s one of those things where it is baseball. Just being a good evaluator of kind of where you’re at is big. And I think I’ve gotten better at that throughout the years. And I knew my sinker was close. I knew my delivery was close. And it was just a matter...Grand jury indicts Daniel Penny in chokehold death of New York City subway rider Jordan Neely

SISAK (Associated Press)NEW YORK (AP) — A man charged with manslaughter for putting an agitated New York City subway rider in a fatal chokehold has been indicted by a grand jury, an expected procedural step that will allow the criminal case to continue.Daniel Penny was charged by Manhattan prosecutors last month in the May 1 death of Jordan Neely, a former Michael Jackson impersonator who struggled in recent years with homelessness and mental illness.Grand jury proceedings are secret and spokespeople for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg declined to comment Wednesday, but the indictment was confirmed by New York City Mayor Eric Adams.“I appreciate DA Bragg conducting a thorough investigation into the death of Jordan Neely. Like I said when the DA first brought charges, I have the utmost faith in the judicial process, and now that the Grand Jury has indicted Daniel Penny, a trial and justice can move forward,” Adams said in a statement.Neely was ...3 things we learned from the Chicago Bears, including Teven Jenkins embracing another position switch and building durability
