Former Ojai teacher arrested for sexually abusing student

An Ojai man was arrested on Monday for sexually abusing a child during his time as a teacher. According to a Ventura County Sheriff's Office news release, in February 2023, Ventura County authorities were alerted to a cold case sexual assault that took place from August 2012 through June 2017 involving the suspect, Paul Herder, who was a teacher at Oak Grove School in Ojai at the time. Detectives say that during Herder’s time as a teacher, he engaged in an unlawful dating relationship with a juvenile student, coerced the student to engage in numerous sexual acts, and sent harmful material to the student. Herder also possessed child pornography. Police traced and located Herder in Pahoa, Hawaii, where he was extradited to Ventura County and arrested for lewd acts on a child, unlawful sexual intercourse, luring and using a minor for sex acts, and other sexual assault charges. The State of California has adopted a rule that will require tiremakers to find a new alternative to a chemical that is currently in use that has been found to kill an endangered salmon species.6PPD, a chemical that helps reduce tire cracking and extends the life of tires, has been added to California's list of Priority Products, which identifies consumer products that contain chemicals that are potentially dangerous to people or the environment. Its inclusion means tire manufacturers will have until Nov. 30 to notify state regulators if they currently make tires that contain the chemical.According to the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, 6PPD reacts with ozone in the air to form another chemical called 6PPD-quinone. A man was arrested Monday in Santa Monica after a stabbing at the beach that sent another man to the hospital, authorities told KTLA. Officers with the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon in the 2000 block of Santa Monica Beach around 2:07 p.m. At the scene, police found the victim near the beach restrooms suffering from at least one stab wound to his chest. (KRON) -- The city of Vallejo will be renaming a street after one of its own. Last week, the Vallejo City Council unanimously voted to rename nearly a mile of Magazine Street to "E-40 Way."The legendary Bay Area rapper is a Vallejo native and is known as a hip-hop icon in the region. E-40 has a song called "Magazine Street" off his 2015 album "Poverty and Prosperity." (KRON) -- Traffic delays were reported after a six-vehicle crash on Highway 29 Monday afternoon, the American Canyon Police Department (ACPD) said. The crash happened just south of American Canyon Road near Safeway. Vallejo to name street after Bay Area icon, rapper E-40 Traffic on both the northbound and southbound lanes of the highway are expected to be impacted.
