For extended stretches Saturday night at Miami-Dade Arena, defense was optional, which for the Dallas Mavericks has become the story of a season gone sour. For extended stretches Saturday night, the Miami Heat found themselves nearly as defenseless. Finally, a stand was made, one that snapped a three-game losing streak and moved the Heat closer to the top seed in the Eastern Conference play-in round. No, not exactly the type of game Erik Spoelstra would prefer, and not the type of postseason placement the Heat had targeted at No. 7 in the Eastern Conference, but the 129-122 victory at Miami-Dade Arena at least restored a healthier sense of order.“I wouldn’t have necessarily drawn it up this way, but I also had a gut feeling,” Spoelstra said, “we were going to have to put some points on the board.”Pushing to an early 18-point lead even with center Bam Adebayo sidelined by a hip bruise, the Heat improved to 41-37 with four games left in their regular season....Revolution give up a late goal in a 1-1 draw with NYCFC

NYCFC upped its mark to 2-2-2.“Give them credit but I think we could have done better,” said Revolution head coach and sporting director Bruce Arena. “It was OK, it’s not a loss.”Arena made two changes to the starting XI that beat D.C. United 2-1 on March 25 at Audi Field, one of which accounted for a significant upgrade in the midfield. Revolution rainmaker Carles Gil, the 2021 league MVP, made his fifth appearance and first start since the home opener against the Houston Dynamo on March 4. Gil missed the game in D.C. with a hamstring injury.Gustavo Bou and Jack Panayotou made deep flanking runs in the eighth and ninth minutes, but both pro...Winderman’s view: Heat sixth sense with Love produces dividends against Mavericks

Observations and other notes of interest from Saturday night’s 129-122 victory over the Dallas Mavericks:– With Bam Adebayo out, some of Saturday’s alterations to the Heat rotation were out of need.– But Kevin Love to the bench worked.– With Love at backup center in a five-out alignment proving liberating to both Love and Heat.– In the absence of Adebayo, the Heat may have found something.– Then again, Cody Zeller certainly acquitted himself well enough to maintain a spot in the rotation.– Of course this all was against the Mavericks’ defense, so there also has to be perspective.– And Dallas continually hunted Love on the defensive end, so there’s also that.– As for Omer Yurtseven, his time appears to have come and gone.– Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said there was no choice but to sit out Adebayo due to Adebayo’s hip contusion.– “Just the movement,” Spoelstra said. “He’s j...Man stabbed following fight in east end

PARIS (AP) — The wheels may be about to come off Paris’ ubiquitous for-hire electric scooters.Zipping around the City of Light on one of them, wind in the hair, or romantically but naughtily e-scooting à deux on one machine when the gendarmes aren’t looking could soon be over if Parisians vote Sunday to do away with the 15,000 opinion-dividing micro-vehicles.The question City Hall is asking in a citywide mini-referendum is: “For or against self-service scooters in Paris?”The answer could doom a leading market for the swift two-wheelers that have expanded locomotion choices in the French capital and other urban centers and towns around the world.Scattered around Paris, easy to locate and hire with a downloadable app and relatively cheap, the scooters are a hit with tourists who love their speed and the help-yourself freedom they offer. In the five years since their introduction, following in the wake of shared cars and shared bicycles, for-hire scooters have also bu...Man shot in parking lot of Alsip children's indoor playground
