JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Lawmakers are back in Jefferson City Wednesday to meet their constitutional requirement of a veto session. After adjourning in May, Governor Mike Parson vetoed a large public safety bill; one of the provisions within the legislation was Blair's Law, criminalizing celebratory gunfire. However, Parson says that's not why he rejected the bill.Instead, it was other provisions like expanding qualifications and the amount of money for restitution for people whose convictions were overturned. In the budget, Parson removed 200 line items totaling half a billion dollars, like 28 million to improve a section of I-44.While many people believe it is unlikely that the governor's vetoes will be overridden, some believe that some GOP members will use Wednesday's session to request a chance to make it more difficult to amend the state constitution. The restaurant: The Fifth String at Attimo; 2246 Larimer St., DenverAbout: Owner and chef Amos Watts closed The Fifth String’s previous location in LoHi last month. He told The Denver Post at the time that the kitchen was too big for the intimate eatery and he was already on the hunt for a smaller space. Watts quickly got in touch with Attimo owner Jon Schlegel, who’s also the founder of Snooze A.M. Eatery, through a mutual friend. Schlegel was looking for someone to take over the kitchen at Attimo and was a fan of Watts, who previously worked at acclaimed Colorado restaurants Corrida, Acorn and Old Major. The new iteration of the restaurant will be a collaboration between Watts and Schlegel, like the many food concepts within local breweries.“We plan to stay here for at least six months while we look for a brick-and-mortar space, so this gives us some time instead of rushing right into something,” Watts said. “We do hope to be here for the long-term and...Who needs new COVID-19, flu and RSV shots? It’s flu shot season again, but depending on your age and health, you may want to roll up your sleeve three times this fall in hopes of staving off respiratory viruses.Shots to reduce the odds of severe influenza and respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, already are available in clinics around Colorado, and an updated COVID-19 booster is expected to start arriving over the next week after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended its use Tuesday.Last season in Colorado, COVID-19 hospitalized 8,231 people, while flu hospitalized 3,076 between October and May. Statewide data on RSV hospitalizations isn’t collected, but 2,597 people were admitted for it in the Denver area. Doctors are hoping for a less severe season this year, but predicting how viruses will behave is always fraught. In the last few weeks, Colorado has been seeing more cases of COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses, though the season hasn’t started in earnest yet, said Dr. Amy Duckro, execut...D.C. bagel shop Call your Mother to open in Hilltop

In Colorado, local farms allow you to pick your own apples, peaches and pumpkins. And one on the Western Slope even permits you to pick your own hemp plant. From Sept. 15 to 17, Typhoon Farma will open the gates at its 186-acre hemp farm in Montrose to the general public for its third annual pick-your-own weekend. The event, which serves as a kickoff to the fall harvest season, enables visitors to stroll through the rows of mature plants and choose one to take home, much like they would a Christmas tree.Ryan Eakes, chief operating officer, began hosting these open house-style events in 2021 as a way to educate locals about hemp and demystify the plant, which he said struggles from a perception problem.Ryan Eakes, chief operating officer at Typhoon Farma, shows off one of the hemp plants available for sale to the general public.
