Asked to improve his faceoffs, Connor Dewar shows immediate improvement In 81 games last season, his first full one in the NHL, Connor Dewar won only 41 percent of his 503 draws. The Wild asked the young center to make improving in that area an emphasis this summer.“We challenged him at the end of the year to make that part of his role on our hockey club,” coach Dean Evason said Monday. In 2022-23, there were 63 players with 500 or more draws and won at least 50 percent of them. The leader, Chicago’s Jonathan Toews, won 63.1 percent of 941 of faceoffs.Dewar took the challenge seriously.“There was a lot of work on grip strength and a little more upper body strength than usual,” he said Monday after a team scrimmage that included special teams and even strength sessions. In the world of small sample sizes, one preseason game is about as small as it gets, but Dewar’s success in the circle Sunday was overwhelming. According to the scoresheet, the 24-year-old won 14 of his 19 draws in a 4-3 victory over Colorado on Sunday in Denver. That’s 73.6 percent, and Eva...

Sixty countries, including the entire European Union, are calling for a complete ban on combustion cars starting in 2035. In the U.S., 15 states have now joined in, and more could follow. So it would be nice if the governors of the other states, including Illinois, would tell us where we stand.Given this looming transition, the following matters also need to be addressed:CostFor most Americans, there’s still a cost issue.According to the 2020 U.S. census, the average annual American household income is $67,521 per year.
