Highway 1 closed West of Winnipeg due to major collision Highway 1 west of Winnipeg is completely closed after reports of a multiple casualty incident Thursday near Carberry, Manitoba.Manitoba RCMP say they are on scene of a “very serious collision”, the highway is closed, and motorists should yield to emergency vehicles on route.STARS air ambulance from Winnipeg and Regina have been dispatched to the area within a 3.2 kilometer distance either side of Highway 5.Winnipeg hospitals have also been placed in Code Orange and are preparing for patients.More to come.

Bayer reaches $6.9 million settlement with New York over advertising for weedkiller Roundup NEW YORK (AP) — Bayer, the pharmaceutical and biotechnology company, has agreed to pay $6.9 million to settle allegations by New York’s attorney general that its Monsanto unit made false and misleading claims about the safety of the weedkiller Roundup.The sum comes on top of the billions of dollars Bayer has already paid to settle lawsuits claiming Roundup, one of the world’s most widely used herbicides, causes cancer. Homeowner finds possible World War II rocket while doing yard work in Lake County LAKE COUNTY, Ill. — Deputies said a possible World War II anti-tank rocket was found Thursday in unincorporated Antioch Township.According to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office, a homeowner found something with sharp edges sticking out of the ground while doing yard work in the 25000 block of West 3rd Street. The homeowner was curious and dug it out of the ground. Greg Abbott held a bill signing ceremony Thursday afternoon to sign legislation designed to "protect women's sports," according to an office press release. While it does not specify which legislation, it is highly likely one of those bills is Senate Bill 15 — which bans collegiate-level transgender athletes from competing on sports teams that do not align with their biological sex assigned at birth. SB 15 would expand similar restrictions that were signed into law two years ago, applying to sports play for Texas public schools grades K-12. Austin 'very underserved' with shelter beds, City details plans to fix the problem AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Austin has the lowest number of beds compared to people experiencing homelessness out of all other big cities in Texas - as well as, Philadelphia, Nashville and Seattle, according to the city's Homeless Strategy Division.The department presented these findings to the Downtown Austin Alliance (DAA) in the alliance's monthly safety forum Thursday morning. Los Angeles was the only city on the list with a lower ratio than Austin.According to that presentation, Austin has 39 beds per 100 people experiencing homelessness.
