Lost hiker rescued on tallest Adirondack mountain NORTH ELBA, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Last week, forest rangers worked after dark to rescue a hiker lost in the area of Mount Marcy in the Adirondacks. Ranger assistance was requested at 3:15 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, for a rescue that would run until 8 p.m. that evening. Ray Brook Dispatch called for assistance after receiving a report of a lost hiker on the Adirondack High Peak. The hiker, a 51-year-old New Jersey resident, was believed to be near Hopkins Junction, after having gotten lost due to the snowy landscape. The hiker was found near Marcy Dam, and was nearing hypothermic conditions. The hiker was guided back to his vehicle, with no medical attention needed. NYSP: Greenfield woman arrested after welfare check CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- On Monday morning, State Police responded to the I-87 rest area in Clifton Park after a caller reported of a person possibly having a medical event in a vehicle. A trooper checked the vehicle operator's welfare, and after an EMS evaluation, arrested Pamela I. Backus, 49, of Greenfield, for Driving While Intoxicated. Backus had a previous DWI conviction in the last ten years. Backus was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.Backus was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert at SP Clifton Park. She was released and issued tickets returnable to Clifton Park Town Court on March 15.

Alalkawi died on February 22 in a car incident involving members of the Troy Police Department.During the early morning of February 22, Alalkawi was driving through an intersection in Troy when he was hit by a Troy police car responding to a domestic incident call. Alalkawi was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead. Woman struck and killed in St. Louis County ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A woman was struck and killed Wednesday morning.Troopers said the driver of a Volkswagen was making a left from Woodstock Road onto South Florissant Road. That's when police said they hit a woman crossing the street.The man driving the Volkswagen went to check on the woman, and that's when another car struck her.Unlike the driver of the first car, the second car did not stop.
