A hot Labor Day weekend is just the start of another month of expected above-average temperatures and below-average precipitation in Denver.Denver’s average temperature in August was 1.3 degrees above normal, according to Denver’s August climate summary from the National Weather Service in Boulder, and the city saw less than an inch of rain with only seven days of measurable rainfall.Meteorologists at the NWS said a similar pattern is likely to happen in September as well.“General warmer and drier weather,” NWS Boulder meteorologist David Barjenbruck said of September’s outlook. “That’s typically what we’ve seen over the last few years. We get these drier fall patterns, and they stick around for a while.”That’s not to say the whole month will be hot and dry.Labor Day weekend will be hot with highs pushing into the 90s through Sunday, then some cooling expected by Monday. There will be a chance of just a brief storm or two ...Broncos Journal: Does Sean Payton’s first team in Denver have depth to withstand regular-season rigors?

The spender and the saver sat next to each other during the NFL Draft in April, smiling at their recent additions and perhaps feeling slightly differently about their capital moving forward. When the spender, Broncos head coach Sean Payton, asked the saver, general manager George Paton, how much they had left in their draft wallets, Paton noted diligently the checkbook balance: “A pair of sixths.”Hey, Payton said, you can find, “probably a couple of dishwashers” with that.Maybe they did in safety JL Skinner and center Alex Forsyth. But over the past couple of years, big expenditures have taken bites out of Denver’s ability to keep the pantry full. There’s no one reason it happened. In fact, Paton was at the center of dealing five picks — four of them first- and second-rounders — for Russell Wilson in March 2022. Then he got a first-rounder for Bradley Chubb, and CEO Greg Penner flipped it to New Orleans for the right to hire Payton.Instead of trading back and perhaps stashi...Beyonce and Lionel Messi take over Southern California

SAN JOSE — Two women are facing felony charges of illegally importing fruit from Vietnam that was partially infested with the larvae of destructive fruit flies, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. The women, ages 42 and 36, face the charge of conspiracy to import and sell fruit in violation of federal and state agricultural laws. Prosecutors said in a news release Friday that in 2022, the women coordinated the importation of the tropical fruit langsat, which was mislabeled as dried fish, coffee and tea during the shipping process in order to avoid inspection.Prosecutors said that one of the women was warned by officials to stop selling the fruit in May 2022, but she continued to advertise it on her social media pages. The langsat was later seized and was found to be infested with the larvae of an invasive species of fruit fly native to South Asia.“This is serious and reckless behavior,” said District Attorney Jeff Rosen in the news release. ...Latest news
