Sheriff: Grenade blast kills man, injures two teens in NW Indiana

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. — A man is dead, and two of his children are in the hospital after a hand grenade exploded in their Lakes of the Four Seasons home Saturday, sheriff's deputies said.According to the Lake County Sheriff's Department, police responded sometime before 6:30 p.m. to a reported explosion in a home in the 3400 block of West lakeshore Drive.Deputies said when they arrived on scene, an adult male was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead. His two children, a 17-year-old son and an 18-year-old daughter, were taken to an area hospital with shrapnel wounds.Upon further investigation, the LCSD said a family in the home had been going through a grandfather's belongings when they found a hand grenade, and someone reportedly pulled the pin on the device and it detonated. Ron DeSantis is asking that a federal judge be disqualified from the First Amendment lawsuit filed by Disney against the Florida governor and his appointees, claiming the jurist's prior statements in other cases have raised questions about his impartiality on the state's efforts to take over Disney World's governing body.DeSantis ' attorney filed a motion in federal court in Tallahassee on Friday seeking to disqualify Chief U.S. District Judge Mark Walker from overseeing the lawsuit filed by Disney last month. AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Thursday, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and U.S. Rep. Randy Weber, R-Texas, introduced the Upholding a Secure Postal Systems (USPS) Act. The act would require the Comptroller General of the United States to submit a report to Congress on nationwide mail theft trends and postal property to the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability and to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs, according to a news release from Cruz's press office.According to the news release, this report, required each year for five years, would also include details on measures the postal service has taken to combat theft.“It is time we get to the root of the mail thefts plaguing Texas and the United States," said Cruz in the news release. RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10) -The Doane Stuart School took time to reflect on the old Kenwood campus with alumni and current students. They say that what was taught back then is still alive and well in today's school.The memorial was attended in high spirits. Stories were shared and songs were sung in an effort to look back on good times. Marcy Cathey, Doane Stuart's Head of School, says those times have gone all too quickly. "The (Kenwood) campus burned at the end of March. While we had moved from that location in 2009, It's still very much a part of that history," said Cathey. (KRON)-- A family in Fremont is missing their adorable furry friend after a suspected residential burglary in broad daylight Saturday afternoon. Free dental care provided to those in need at San Jose convention center A nine-week old Jack Russell terrier puppy is believed to have been taken from a home in the area of Fremont Boulevard and Eggers Drive.
