DENVER (KDVR) -- Even with record heat waves over the summer, Denver weather temperatures have yet to hit 100 degrees, and it's likely it won't happen at all this year. The National Weather Service started tracking temperatures in Denver in 1872, and since then, temperatures have only reached 100 degrees in September twice. What’s the hottest temperature recorded in Denver? While Denver did set records for the hottest temperatures multiple times this year, Pinpoint Weather Chief Meteorologist Dave Fraser said he doubts temperatures can reach 100 degrees at this point."We're too far past summer heating, the sun angle is low, the days are getting shorter, so it's probably virtually impossible that we would see a 100-degree day," Fraser said. When was the last 100-degree day in Denver?Over 150 years, the NWS has only recorded triple-digit temperatures in Denver 105 times. The last time Denver got to triple-digit heat was about 13 months ago on Aug. 5, 2022, at 101 degrees. When was the l...Hit the runway with your fur baby during dog fashion week at SLS South Beach

A Beverly neighborhood is a little brighter thanks to one family who turned a sidewalk into a community bulletin board this summer, one question at a time.“It’s fun to see that people like to get their hands dirty with chalk,” Charlotte, 11, said.Louisa and Charlotte Soodik, along with their father Nick, drew up the idea at the start of the summer.“We just thought about the idea to write a bunch of chalk questions, and then we just kept doing it, and it was really fun,” Louisa, 8, said. The family said they never expected to get such an overwhelming response from the community.“We could be inside with the windows up, and we would hear people laughing, talking about what to write,” Nick said. The questions are anything from, “Who is your favorite fictional character,” to “Which famous person would you want to get lunch with,” the family said.“We got amazing responses,” Nick said. “I mean, the whole sidewalk was filled with famous people’s names.”In honor of the first week back to schoo...Orioles top prospect Jackson Holliday ‘grateful’ to be in Triple-A amid ‘crazy’ year

Jackson Holliday didn’t tell the hotel clerk to Google him Monday, but he did have to do some convincing.Freshly promoted to the Triple-A Norfolk Tides from Double-A Bowie, Holliday was with his fiancée as he tried to check into a hotel in the city. The problem: Holliday is only 19, and the hotel required registering guests to be at least 21.The other problem: The baby-faced shortstop looks like he’s barely reached adolescence. The hotel clerk asked the couple what their situation was.“I just got called up,” Holliday said. “We need a hotel that’s safe and nice.”The clerk relented and rented them a room, and so began the stay of baseball’s top prospect on his first night in Triple-A.Holliday, the top pick in the 2022 draft by Orioles and the son of seven-time All-Star outfielder Matt Holliday, was playing high school baseball in Oklahoma last year. When he arrived in Norfolk, he reached his fourth level of the organization this seas...Chicago White Sox first baseman Andrew Vaughn continues to build infield skills

Kansas City Royals left fielder MJ Melendez ripped a line drive in the third inning Monday that looked like it was going to be an extra-base hit down the right-field line.Chicago White Sox first baseman Andrew Vaughn dove and made a tremendous catch for the final out of the inning. One inning later, Royals center fielder Drew Waters sent a hard-hit ball in Vaughn’s direction. Vaughn jumped as high as he could and made the catch. After spending most of his first two major-league seasons in the outfield, Vaughn moved to his natural position of first base this year.Vaughn told the Tribune last week he’s continuing to learn every day.“(I’ve been) trying to get better at it since spring training,” he said. “(I’m) working with (infield coach) Eddie (Rodríguez), getting my reps in and picks and footwork around the bag. All sorts of stuff.”Vaughn played 107 games in the outfield, mostly in left, and 15 at first base as a rookie in 2021. Las...Sen. By LISA MASCARO and MARY CLARE JALONICK (Associated Press)WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell’s health episodes show “no evidence” of a stroke or seizure disorder, the Capitol physician said Tuesday, but his statement still left questions about the apparent freeze-ups that have drawn concerns about the 81-year-old’s situation.McConnell returned to work at the Capitol after the summer recess, and his office released a letter from attending physician Brian P. Monahan concerning the long-serving Republican leader’s health. The GOP leader froze up last week during a press conference in Kentucky, unable to respond to a question in the second such episode in a month.Walking into the Senate on Tuesday, McConnell answered no questions as he smiled at reporters. He made only passing reference to the incident during a speech in the chamber, his voice somewhat muffled.“One particular moment of my time back home has received its f...Naked homeless man suspected of burglary, meth arrested

NEW YORK (AP) — Home-sharing giant Airbnb said it has had to stop accepting some reservations in New York City as new regulations on short-term rentals went into effect Tuesday that will mean big changes for travelers hoping to avoid the high cost of a Big Apple hotel. The new rules are intended to effectively end a free-for-all in which city landlords and residents have been renting out their apartments by the week or the night to tourists or others in town for short stays.Under the new system, rentals shorter than 30 days are only allowed if hosts register with the city. Hosts must commit to being physically present in the home for the duration of the rental, sharing living quarters with their guest. More than two guests at a time are not allowed, either, meaning families are effectively barred.Platforms such as Airbnb, VRBO and others are not allowed to process rentals for unregistered hosts — and as of early this week, few had successfully registered. The city says it has approve...Latest news
