A 68-year-old woman walking to an Easter Celebration was killed Sunday, along with a motorcyclist suspected of being involved in an illegal street racing stunt that triggered a deadly multi-vehicle crash. The crash happened around 9:20 a.m. near the intersection of Magnolia and Flower avenues in Fullerton, according to the Fullerton Police Department. A small memorial sits on Magnolia Avenue where Antonia Mendez Ruiz, who had been walking with her husband, was struck and killed that morning. Witnesses said an Audi and a motorcycle were speeding, possibly street racing, when they collided with a Toyota minivan making a turn onto Flower Avenue. The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The Audi veered off the road and hit Ruiz and a cyclist before crashing into a power pole, overturning and landing in Moses Ortiz’s front yard, severing the homeowner’s gas line. ...Bicyclist injured in San Jose hit-and-run crash

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Joonas Korpisalo stopped 20 shots for his first shutout of the season and fourth of his career as the Los Angeles Kings beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-0 on Monday night to stop a three-game losing streak.Arthur Kaliyev, Vladislav Gavrikov and Drew Doughty scored for the Kings, who tied their record for home wins in a season by matching the 26 they had in 1990-91, 2005-06 and 2015-16.Collin Delia made 25 saves for the Canucks, who have lost five of seven. There were more fights — two — than goals — one — through the feisty but low-event opening two periods. Kaliyev was able to break the scoreless deadlock with 4:47 left in the second, beating Delia between his legs from the top of the crease for his 13th goal.Gavrikov doubled the lead 4:03 into the third, burying a wrist shot from the slot after Trevor Moore found him joining in off the rush, and Doughty added an empty-netter with 1:37 remaining. It was a vital result for the Kings, who came into April with hopes of wi...Gallen strikes out 11, Diamondbacks beat Brewers 3-0

PHOENIX (AP) — Zac Gallen’s first two outings on the mound were pretty rough this season. To keep the slow start in perspective, the Arizona Diamondbacks ace wore a beige and green hat to the ballpark on Monday that said “Don’t Trip” — a reminder that it was just two starts, there was a ton of season left and there was no reason to freak out.Outing No. 3 was much, much better.Gallen struck out 11 over seven innings, Christian Walker smacked a two-run homer and the Diamondbacks won their fourth straight game, beating the Milwaukee Brewers 3-0.“Having a night like this is nice, a confidence boost,” Gallen said. “But I really wasn’t too worried about it. It’s two starts, now this is the third, and hopefully I’ll have 27 to 30 more. It’s just understanding it’s a long season.”Nick Ahmed had three hits while Ketel Marte added two for the D-backs, who took three of four from the Dodgers over the weekend.Arizona took a 1-0 lead in the first when Jos...Offshore wind bill takes flight in session’s final hours

Wes More’s desk. SAN DIEGO -- If you’ve been in the desert or inland the last few days and experienced the warm up in temperatures and then come to the beach and experienced a complete lack of sunshine, there’s a reason for that and apparently a name for it too.“Not only do we have the “May gray” and the “June gloom”, but when it happens a little bit earlier in April, we call it “Gray-pril”, said Elizabeth Adams, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.None of these descriptions are official meteorological terms by the way, but they help describe what’s going on.“Basically what’s happening is the deserts are heating up and with that lower pressure with the heat in the desert, all of this marine layer air is pushing from the ocean on to the coast. That’s bringing cooler temperatures and higher humidity, which leads to that fog formation,” Adams said. Our Southern California coast has been noticeably missing the sunshine, covered in fog the last few days. QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani security forces raided a suspected hideout of the Pakistani Taliban in the southwestern city of Quetta early Tuesday, triggering a shootout that killed four officers and a militant commander, officials said. The police launched the raid after being tipped off that the wanted militant commander was hiding in a home in the city’s Kuchlak neighborhood, said police official Naveed Shah. The officers demanded the suspect surrender but he instead opened fire at the security forces, killing four officers before being fatally shot. A search of the area was still underway, Shah said. Quetta, the provincial capital of Baluchistan, has seen a spike in violence recently, as has the rest of Pakistan. On Monday, two roadside bombs hours apart targeted police vehicles in Quetta, killing four people and wounding 22, mostly pedestrians. The bombings were claimed by the outlawed Baluchistan Liberation Army, which was designated a terrorist group by the United St...Fancy a dip? An Olympic reboot for Paris’ toxic River Seine

PARIS (AP) — Even before he has dipped his toes into the murky waters of Paris ‘ famous but forbidden River Seine, French triathlete Thibaut Rigaudeau is already fielding questions from disbelieving friends. “Are you scared of swimming in the Seine?” he says they ask him. “It looks disgusting.'” For decades, it was. Though immortalized in art, literature and song, and cherished by lovers who whisper sweet nothings or tearfully part on the privacy of its banks, the river was ecologically dying. It was too toxic for most fish and for swimmers, largely useful only as a waterway for goods and people or as a watery grave for discarded bicycles and other trash. Swimming in the Seine has, with some exceptions, been off-limits since 1923.Now, however, its admittedly unappetizing green-brown waters hide a tale of rebirth. A costly and complex cleanup is resuscitating the Seine just in time for it to play a starring role in the 2024 Paris Olympics and, after that, for ...Latest news
