TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Seconds after Palestinian gunmen began shooting up a busy Jerusalem bus stop last week, Yuval Castleman raced toward the scene and opened fire on the attackers — only to be shot and killed by an Israeli soldier who apparently suspected he was also an assailant. The shooting of Castleman, who in security camera footage is seen kneeling, raising his hands and flinging open his shirt to indicate he isn’t a threat, underscores what critics say is an epidemic of excessive force by Israeli soldiers, police and armed citizens against suspected Palestinian attackers.“He took all the necessary steps so that he could be properly identified,” Castleman’s father, Moshe, told Israeli Army Radio on Sunday, “and they kept shooting at him.”Castleman’s shooting mirrors previous incidents where Israeli security forces or civilians have opened fire on attackers who no longer appear to pose a threat, or on suspected assailants or unarmed civilians deemed to be threats. The national championship will be decided Jan. 8 against Houston. The final season of the four-team playoff before it expands to 12 next year presented the CFP selection committee with its toughest decision in the 10-year history of the postseason system. The Seminoles (13-0) lost star quarterback Jordan Travis to a season-ending injury two weeks ago, but continued to win with a backup and then a third-string quarterback. But the committee is instructed to judge the teams for what they are heading into the playoff and decided FSU without Travis was not among the best four in the country. That steered the committee to Alabama, which upset Georgia to win the Sout...Crash that closed Gardiner Express for many hours Saturday likely due to street racing: police

Toronto police believe stunt racing may have been the cause of an early morning crash that closed the westbound lanes of the Gardiner Expressway most of Saturday morning. Police say a red Porsche Cayenne was travelling at a high rate of speed in the westbound lanes when it struck a tractor-trailer near Park Lawn Road just before 1:30 a.m. The force of the crash caused the truck to lose control and flip on its side, blocking all westbound lanes in the process. The driver of the Porsche abandoned the vehicle and was last seen fleeing the area in an eastbound direction. No description of the driver was immediately available. Investigators believe the Porsche may have been racing with another vehicle on the highway which also fled the scene of the crash. The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.Weekend Break: Museum of Illusions in Chicago

New York is a key state for House Republicans if they are to keep their majority in 2024, a reality underscored by Rep.
