AUSTIN (KXAN) — On May 1, 2021, Austin voters approved Proposition B, making it a criminal offense for anyone to sit, lie down or camp in public areas. Since that time the city has been cleaning up and moving hundreds of camps across the city, but it comes at a cost.Many of the people experiencing homelessness usually just move to another area when they are forced out of a camp site, which means more clean ups in the future.KXAN requested a breakdown of each department involved in the clean ups and how much money the department has spent.There are three departments that sent over information: The Public Works Department, Parks and Recreation Department and Watershed Protection Department.The Parks and Recreation Department has spent $1,301,462 on homeless encampment clean up from 2021 to June 16, 2023. Foxy Falafel is closing.The food truck turned bricks-and-mortar, which opened in the St. Anthony Park neighborhood in 2012, has been slinging falafel, hummus, shawarma, kofta and more for more than a decade there, but owner Erica Strait announced via social media that it was time to hang it up.The announcement reads, in part:“With a bittersweet mix of nostalgia and gratitude, I announce the closing of Foxy Falafel after an incredible 13-year journey. New York-based composer Alex Weiser was named a 2020 Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for music following the release of his debut album, “and all the days were purple.” A performance of Weiser’s song cycle of the same title by the low-voice choral group Cantus illustrates why the work received such accolades. The composer has created music that encompasses the listener with deeply felt sound. These are songs that demand attention and wonder.Cantus performs the work this week in multiple locations, having opened the run last Tuesday at MacPhail Center for Music. KEENE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers responded to multiple wilderness rescues in Essex County. Two of the individuals had to be flown to local hospitals for treatment. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! On the afternoon of July 8, Forest Rangers responded to and located an injured hiker on Cascade Mountain. The hiker sustained an unstable ankle injury. Rangers requested the assistance of New York State Police Aviation. The 38-year-old was successfully hoisted and taken to the hospital. Shortly after 1 p.m. on July 9, Forest Rangers were notified of a 13-year-old in anaphylactic shock on the Four Corners trail in the Eastern High Peaks. NYSP Aviation assistance was requested. The subject received an epinephrine injection from camp staff and was flown to the hospital. Rangers say the subject, who had not previously shown signs of a nut allergy, reacted to a granola bar. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A St. Louis County man is accused of shooting a mother while she held her baby earlier this month. Prosecutors have charged Deondre Powell, 29, with one count of armed criminal action, domestic assault and endangering the welfare of a child. 3 killed, several injured in Greyhound bus crash According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, a witness told police that Powell pull out a firearm and shot the mother of his child in the face. This reportedly happened on July 1 in a north St. Louis County hotel complex on Hanley Road. The mother was holding a child, who was less than one month old, in her hands when Powell allegedly shot her.Investigators did not disclose a potential motive in relation to the shooting. WASHINGTON COUNTY, Mo. - An investigation is underway after a gyroplane crashed late Tuesday evening in Washington County with two people on board. A FAA spokesperson tells FOX 2 that a Magni M24 Orion gyroplane crashed in a field, just southeast of Washington County Airport in Potosi. It happened around 7 p.m. 3 killed, several injured in Greyhound bus crash Investigators say two people were on board during the crash, though do not have an update on their conditions as of Wednesday morning. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
