Manatee that made rare trip to New England waters found dead weeks later (WPRI) – A manatee spotted last month in Rhode Island waters has been found dead offshore, according to Connecticut's Mystic Aquarium."We are so saddened by it," Sara Callan, manager of Mystic's animal rescue program, told Nexstar's WPRI. Momo the monkey captured after running rampant overnight in Indianapolis Manatees are rarely seen as far north as New England. The West Indian manatee species — which "cannot tolerate temperatures below 68 degrees Fahrenheit for extended periods of time," according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — is generally found off the Florida coast and in the Caribbean. The manatee seen in Rhode Island was first spotted swimming in Quonochontaug Pond on Sept. 11 before slowly making its way toward Narragansett. Man sentenced to 7 years for 2020 murder in Austin AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was sentenced Tuesday in connection to a 2020 murder in west Austin.Darcy McMillian, 37, was sentenced to seven years in prison, according to court documents. He was charged with and pleaded guilty to murder-handgun. On March 26, 2020, Austin first responders found a man lying on the road in West Austin. After life-saving attempts, the man died at the scene. The victim was identified as 24-year-old Zach Ledbetter. As of Saturday, McMillian remains in the Travis County Correctional Complex.

Hormel union says it’s reached tentative agreement on new contract AUSTIN, Minn. — The United Food & Commercial Workers Local 663 announced Thursday that a tentative contract agreement has been reached with Hormel Foods Corp.The union local, which represents about 1,700 meatpacking workers in Austin, released a statement about the positive movement toward a new contract. The tentative deal was agreed upon during a Wednesday night negotiation session.“We unanimously recommend this tentative agreement to our fellow union members at Hormel. Armed man killed by police outside shopping center in San Fernando Valley  A suspect was killed following a shooting involving police officers in Canoga Park early Saturday morning, authorities said. According to officials with the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to a radio call of an armed suspect in a pickup truck in the parking lot of a shopping mall at the corner of Sherman Way and Variel Avenue just before 1 a.m.Upon arriving on scene, officers located the suspect and, when he failed to comply with verbal commands, an officer-involved shooting occurred, officials said.The suspect, only described as a Hispanic man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second suspect who was with the man was questioned and then released, police said. The area remained closed for investigation through 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
