Why did Gophers running back Zach Evans not play to start season? Gophers running back Zach Evans spun out of a tackle, kept his feet and picked up 11 yards for a first down during Saturday’s game against Louisiana at Huntington Bank Stadium.Where was that over the first month of the season?Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck received questions on the whereabouts of Evans a few times as the redshirt freshman didn’t carry the ball a single time over the opening four games. The simple answer is Fleck relied on who won the running back competition in preseason camp. That’s how Western Michigan senior transfer Sean Tyler started the season-opener against Nebraska and had the most carries in the win over the Cornhuskers. Then, after Tyler had fumbling issues against Eastern Michigan, true freshman Darius Taylor took on a much bigger role. After one carry for three yards against Nebraska, Taylor put up 529 yards on 86 carries over the next three weeks and won three consecutive Big Ten freshman of the week honors.Taylor took over the lion’s share of ...

The team has until 10 a.m. Tuesday to submit its postseason roster.“I don’t have every single one of those answers as we sit here right now,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Monday afternoon. “We have a pretty good idea, but we don’t have that completely figured out just because we still have more time to make decisions.”Correa, who has been playing through plantar fasciitis since May, suffered a full thickness tear of his plantar fascia on Sept. 18. Denver council votes to delay collecting new sidewalk repair fee Denver homeowners and businesses won’t have to start paying the city’s new sidewalk repair fee until next summer after equity concerns sparked City Council to delay implementation Monday night. The fee will now be collected beginning July 1, 2024, more than 18 months after voters approved the Denver Deserves Sidewalks initiative and six months after it was initially scheduled to begin. Councilwoman Amanda Sandoval, who requested the delay, said Monday those extra months will give a city task force more time to explore solutions to the program’s fee structure, which currently proposes starkly different charges to residents depending on the location of their home.“I’m responding to constituents’ concerns, property owners’ concerns and basically inequity that was baked into the ordinance,” Sandoval said. “I don’t feel like it’s equitable to base sidewalk fees based on your street type classification. Denver Public Schools reimbursed $3,500 of Auon’tai Anderson’s legal fees in a settlement never meant to be made public Denver Public Schools quietly paid school board Vice President Auon’tai Anderson a $3,500 settlement earlier this year to help cover legal fees he incurred when the Board of Education investigated anonymous and unsubstantiated allegations of sexual assault made against him. The settlement was never intended to be made public, according to the legal agreement, which specifies Anderson and DPS can’t acknowledge its existence or release the document — even under Colorado’s public records act — unless required by law or court order. With Anderson’s consent, DPS released a copy of the settlement agreement Monday after The Denver Post and Chalkbeat Colorado published stories detailing the transaction and the district’s repeated refusal to release the settlement.“It is unfathomable that any public school district would include a provision in a settlement agreement by which it commits to withhold that public record from disclosure under the Colorado Open R...

Gravestone found buried in a backyard may delay Metro expansion A planned Los Angeles Metro expansion has hit a snag after a headstone turned up in a resident’s backyard. When neighbors in a Lawndale neighborhood learned about Metro's plans to build a new C (Green) Line in the area, they thought it was imperative to let officials know about the gravestones.
