Police: Man opens fire outside Jewish school in Memphis

By Shawn Nottingham and Alta Spells | CNNAuthorities shot a man after they say he fired shots at a Jewish school in Memphis, Tennessee, Monday afternoon.Memphis police were called to the Margolin Hebrew Academy-Feinstone Yeshiva of the South around 12:20 p.m. ET after an armed man tried to enter the school, according to Memphis Police Assistant Chief Don Crowe.Police say the suspect tried to enter the building but couldn’t get inside. “When he could not gain entry, he fired shots outside the school,” Crowe said. No one was injured at the school.School officials gave police a photo and a description of the suspect’s maroon colored Dodge Ram pickup truck.A short time later, Memphis police officers found a vehicle matching the description and stopped the driver. Santa Clara County has narrowly avoided a strike with its largest union after reaching a tentative agreement that includes the biggest wage increase in more than two decades.SEIU Local 521, which represents more than 12,000 county workers including 9-1-1 dispatchers, social workers and hospital staff, authorized a potential strike in mid-June. (KRON) -- A grass fire in Healdsburg has caused delays on Highway 101 Monday afternoon, according to California Highway Patrol. The fire broke out in the area of Dry Creek Road and Hwy 101.As of 3:25 p.m., all lanes in both the northbound and southbound directions are blocked. (AP) — A coalition of environmental groups announced plans Monday to file a lawsuit to try to block Virginia from withdrawing from a multistate compact designed to reduce greenhouse gases. The Southern Environmental Law Center filed notice with state regulators indicating the coalition’s intention to sue in Fairfax County Circuit Court to keep Virginia in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin made withdrawal from the compact a priority, citing its impact on the cost of electricity. A man is in custody after running from Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and climbing a large tree at a Dania Beach cemetery, eventually coming down at his own volition. 7News’ Skyforce hovered over the scene on Monday afternoon where BSO deputies attempted to capture the man up in the tree at the West Lawn Cemetery on 1251 Southeast 12th Street, since 3 p.m. Several paramedics, officers and firefighters were at the scene.The suspect was wanted for a felony and fled from officers. People crowded behind the fence as the situation went on — One witness said the wanted man was at a nearby corner store where police approached him to talk about an incident and he then ran and jumped the fence of the cemetery and scaled the tree.Authorities brought out ladder trucks, but the suspect refused to come down for almost three hours.
