Kansas man pleads guilty to poaching moose in Colorado

After a nearly two-year Colorado Parks and Wildlife investigation, a Kansas man has pleaded guilty to poaching a bull moose he illegally killed in Teller County and left to rot.On July 10, Steven Samuelson, 33, of Oakley, Kan., pleaded guilty in Teller County District Court to willful destruction of wildlife, a felony, as well as misdemeanor charges of hunting without a proper and valid big game license, aggravated illegal possession of wildlife, failure to prepare wildlife for human consumption, hunting in a careless manner and illegal take of wildlife, according to a CPW news release.Samuelson, who was fined about $20,000, received a two-year deferred jail sentence on the felony charge. It will be waived if he meets the terms of the plea agreement and to two years of unsupervised probation. A 71-year-old man from Los Angeles collapsed and died Tuesday at a trailhead in Death Valley National Park as temperatures reached 121 degrees, authorities announced. Other visitors to the park noticed the man outside the restroom of the popular Golden Canyon hiking trail and called 911 at around 3:40 p.m., according to a news release from park officials. Park rangers arrived just seven minutes later, performed CPR and used an automated external defibrillator (AED), but were unable to save the unidentified 71-year-old. Rangers believe the man, who was wearing a sunhat and hiking clothes, and was also carrying a backpack, had likely been hiking the Golden Canyon trail. “The Inyo County Coroner’s Office has not yet determined the man’s cause of death. A downtown Los Angeles man was found guilty of hacking into social media accounts and stealing around $740,000 through SIM-swapping scams.Amir Hossein Golshan, 24, pleaded guilty to one count of unauthorized access to a protected computer to obtain information, one count of wire fraud, and one count of accessing a computer to defraud and obtain value, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.Golshan faces up to 20 years in federal prison for the wire fraud count and up to five years in prison for each of the computer access counts.From at least April 2019 to February 2023, authorities said Golshan was responsible for multiple online schemes that defrauded hundreds of victims through social media scams, Zelle payment fraud, and Apple support impersonations.“In total, Golshan’s entire scheme caused approximately $740,000 in losses to hundreds of victims over several years,” officials said.One of the ways Goshan scammed his victims was through the practice of “SIM swapping.” The process...Tyretta Yazzie Killed in Pedestrian Crash near 51st Avenue [Phoenix, AZ]

Woman Dead, Man Injured in Pedestrian Accident near Glenrosa AvenuePHOENIX, AZ (July 19, 2023) – Early Tuesday morning, Tyretta Yazzie lost her life in a pedestrian crash near 51st Avenue.The incident happened on July 11th, at around 4:45 a.m., near the intersection of 51st Avenue and Glenrosa Avenue.According to reports, Yazzie and another pedestrian were attempting to cross the 51st Avenue mid-block when a car struck them. SAN BENITO COUNTY – Crews on Wednesday night were battling a nearly 300-acre fire in southern San Benito County, according to Cal Fire.The Idria Fire ignited around 11:30 a.m. on New Idria Road, near the ghost town of Idria.As of 8 p.m., the fire had charred 296 acres and was 20% contained, according to Cal Fire.The cause of the blaze is under investigation.The Idria Fire is the fourth largest of the seven fires Cal Fire is currently fighting across the state. A Sig Alert was issued Wednesday night around 8:15 p.m. for the closure of all I-80 westbound lanes near Ashby Avenue. The news comes as the police department is being investigated for racist text messages sent by multiple officers.
