LIVE: Police investigating homicide in south Austin; City's 50th of the year

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Austin Police Department is investigating the city's 50th homicide of the year after a body was found in south Austin late Tuesday night. APD officers began investigating the scene, which was in the 1100 block of Cumberland Road, around midnight after a person flagged officers down in a park saying they found a man's body in a car. EMS declared the man dead, and according to police, there was trauma to his body. It's unclear how the trauma was caused. ST. LOUIS - The homeless encampment on the St. Louis City Hall lawn that was growing is now gone Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, a major homeless advocate is set to speak out later.Fencing is now up around the area where the homeless camp used to be. Officials with Mayor Tishaura Jones' office told Fox 2 that the last people who were staying in tents were moved to transitional housing around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.Authorities also shared that they are enforcing the overnight park curfew here since City Hall sits on park ground. The mayor's office says that the American Rescue Plan Act or 'ARPA' funds are being used to make sure enough shelter was available for the people who had been living in tents for some time. WASHINGTON PARK, Ill. - An early morning fire destroys a home in Washington Park, Illinois.The fire broke out arounf 5:30 a.m. on the 5200 block of North Park Drive, where crews can still be seen responding. Our Nissan Rogue Runner reporter, Nic Lopez, was at the scene, as there are no signs of occupants in the home. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - More than 130 dogs are on the road to recovery after they were rescued from puppy mills across the Midwest.They're being sent to animal shelters across the country Wednesday. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A former north county cooperative police officer is in court Wednesday for a detention hearing.Marcellis Blackwell was arrested in June for allegedly sexually assaulting men he detained or arrested. BONNE TERRE, Mo. - A Missouri prison guard who admitted to assaulting an inmate and possessing child porn will be sentenced Wednesday.37-year-old Carl Hart worked at a state prison in Bonne Terre. He told a federal court that an argument with an inmate led to the inmate getting pepper-sprayed. Hart admitted to hitting the inmate twice while he was washing off the spray in the shower.
