Union workers took to the streets with city and state leaders in Boston Monday, rallying support for the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes that have Hollywood on hold. Monday’s demonstration took place in Downtown Crossing and followed a Labor Day breakfast backing workers rights in Boston where Gov. Maura Healey voiced her support for those on strike.“We honor you and your courage and we stand with you in this fight,” Healey said. “We’re dealing with something that’s not new,” said actor Daniel Washington. “It’s just the straw that broke the camel’s back.” SAG-AFTRA represents thousands of actors currently on strike. In Downtown Crossing, Sen. Worcester community members are mourning after a local teen died last week after he reportedly participated in a social media challenge. Worcester police said the 14-year-old Harris Wolobah stopped breathing at his home on Friday. Speaking with 7NEWS, Wolobah’s recreational team basketball coach said Wolobah had been at Doherty Memorial High School earlier in the day when he ate a chip covered in spice made from hot peppers and got sick. “He fell victim to the ‘One Chip Challenge,” coach Douglas Hill said. “There was a person in school that kind of dared him to do it.” “The nurse basically said that she just took his vitals and looked for whatever symptoms she could find,” Hill said. “He said that he was okay but was not feeling good.” Hill said Wolobah’s stomach was hurting, saying “he was obviously feeling the effects of the chip.” While Worcester police said there was no official cause of death as of Monday, a spokesperson said “it appears he d...Pete Alonso’s historic home runs amaze Mets teammates, Buck Showalter

The Mets’ Pete Alonso continues to amaze the Amazins.Teammates and manager Buck Showalter couldn’t help but marvel Sunday after Alonso became the fifth player in MLB history to record three years with 40 home runs through five career seasons.Alonso — who slugged his 40th and 41st home runs of 2023 during Sunday’s 6-3 win over the Mariners — also tallied his 100th RBI of the season, making him the fourth Met to reach that milestone three times.“The sky’s the limit,” said Fransisco Lindor, who joined the Mets in 2021. “I don’t think he has had his best year yet. I didn’t see the rookie season where he hit [53 home runs in 2019] but I think Pete could hit .300 and still hit 40 home runs in a year.”Alonso, a career .254 hitter, has never batted above .271 in a season, but his 187 home runs rank fifth on the Mets’ all-time list. His only year with fewer than 37 homers came in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic sh...Boston firefighters battle 4-alarm blaze in Dorchester, rear porches collapse

NELSON, B.C. — Waylon Edey was 39 years old when he died in hospital in Trail, B.C., after being shot in the head by a police officer who was later charged and acquitted of manslaughter. The RCMP had been responding to a complaint about a driver on Highway 3 in Castlegar, B.C., on Jan. 29, 2015. RCMP Const. Jason Tait shot Edey during an “attempted traffic stop,” the Independent Investigations Office of BC found, and Tait was acquitted on charges of manslaughter using a firearm and criminal negligence causing death with a firearm in November 2020. At the time, the acquittal was applauded by the National Police Federation, the RCMP’s collective bargaining organization, which pointed out in a news release after Tait’s not guilty verdict that Edey “had a lengthy record of impaired driving and violence.”“The jury returned their decision after only five hours of deliberation, following eight weeks of trial,” federation President Brian Sauvé...One rescued from boat on fire in Scarborough
