When will Zilker Park reopen after ACL? AUSTIN (KXAN) — The 2023 Austin City Limits Music Festival wrapped Sunday after two weekends of music at Zilker Park. With the festival ending, some may be wondering when they can enjoy the cooler weather outside at Zilker. But that won't be for a few more weeks. The Zilker Great Lawn area, plus a number of parking lots, will be closed through Saturday, according to the Austin Parks and Recreation Department closure map, which outlines more exact closure areas.Starting Saturday, Oct. 21, the Zilker lawn will be closed for the annual fall maintenance. This is when parks crews do aeration, irrigation and nutrient application on the Zilker Great Lawn after summer and fall events like Austin City Limits, according to the parks and recreation department. The parks department said it anticipates reopening the Zilker lawn Nov. 1, but it will give an update about reopening no earlier than Oct. 29. Remains identified as St. Louis soldier who died in WWII ST. LOUIS -- DNA has helped to identify the remains of a soldier who died during World War II as a man from St. Louis. U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Woodrow F. Gerdes, 31, will eventually be brought back to his hometown for a burial.Gerdes died during a battle in November 1944 near the town of Germeter, Germany. He was reported missing in action but never listed as a German prisoner of war. Army officials later determined that he must have been killed in action.Human remains were found in a foxhole near Raffelsbrand in April 1947. They have been buried in the Ardennes American Cemetery at Neuville-en-Condroz, Belgium, since 1949. The remains were removed in 2018 for identification. Three metros on the verge of passing St. Louis in size Armed Forces Medical Examiner System used Y-chromosome DNA and autosomal DNA analysis to aid their investigation.
