Ex-Dodgers Turner, Verdugo lift Red Sox to 8-5 victory over LA Winning the breakup is a big part of baseball; when given the chance, make your former team regret letting you go.That’s exactly what Alex Verdugo and Justin Turner did on Saturday, lifting the Red Sox to a 8-5 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers.Since Day 1, Verdugo has wanted to be more than the guy from the Mookie Betts trade.Trades are a part of the baseball business, but it’s quite an unfair position in which to find oneself, dealt to one of the game’s most historic franchises in exchange for one of its most decorated homegrown stars. The pile of money Harry Frazee received from the New York Yankees in exchange for Babe Ruth never had to face repeated questions and commentary about the transaction, but Verdugo has been dissected, discussed, and compared to Betts ever since. So when the two finally got to square off at Fenway Park this weekend, the spotlight got even brighter. Especially since both were in the leadoff spot on Friday and Saturday and starting in right fi...

Zimbabwe has had just two leaders in that time, long-ruling autocrat Robert Mugabe and Mnangagwa. The 80-year-old Mnangagwa, who has the nickname “the crocodile” from his days as a guerrilla fighter, won 52.6% of the votes in the midweek election, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission said in a late-...

Alvin Stiger was getting ready to watch the news Saturday morning, when the sky got dark as a storm rolled in. Then, a bolt of lightning lit up the sky. “We heard the wind blowing past the window, and then it was a loud boom, and a loud crash, and a loud thud,” said Stiger.  Five new Missouri laws to know that become official Monday A huge tree branch had fallen on his wheelchair ramp and onto the driveway, completely blocking him inside.“Well, I was glad that I didn’t have a doctor’s appointment,” he said. Stiger says this is the only ramp installed to his home. His wife, Cynthia Stiger, said the fire department came by to make sure to get the branches off the road. But to deal with the tree branch on their property, they’d have to call their insurance company. She said someone from the city of Dellwood came by to evaluate damage as well.  Close...

Kiszla: Clown time is over for Broncos and Buffs. Both teams will be better than Vegas oddsmakers think. For far too long, the “F” in football around here has stood for failure with a capital F.The boring Broncos? A joke. The bumbling Buffaloes? A laughingstock. For far too long, the football season in our corner of the mountain time zone has been rocky, to put it mildly. But all that misery?Clown time for the Broncos and Buffs is over.Sean Payton and Deion Sanders will make football fun again in Colorado.I don’t need to guarantee it, because the new coaches in charge of the operation in Denver and Boulder won’t accept losing.Sanders stood up Friday and preached to more than 1,500 CU boosters at a kickoff luncheon. He vowed the Buffs “want it all. They don’t just want a little bit, they just don’t want a portion of it, they want it all. And they just don’t want to win, they want to dominate.”After the Romper Room run by Nathaniel Hackett, Payton has once again given the Broncos an adult in the team meeting room.Archie Manning passed through our dusty old cowtown last week to visit the gr...
