Authorities warn of dangerous crimes targeting drivers in SoCal Authorities in Orange County are warning motorists to be aware of two different types of scams targeting drivers, one of which involves a dangerous crash-and-grab style robbery similar to an incident captured on cameras on the 10 Freeway in Los Angeles in late October.  According to officials at California Highway Patrol, thieves staged another crash-and-grab robbery on Nov. 14 at the Beach Boulevard on ramp to the northbound 405 Freeway near the Huntington Beach-Westminster border.  The staged collision involved two suspect vehicles, a maroon Infiniti SUV and a white Ford Explorer.  “Several suspects, dressed in dark clothing and wearing masks, approached the victim’s vehicle, robbed the victim at gunpoint of U.S. currency, jewelry, and fled the scene in the white Ford Explorer,” a CHP news release stated.  Investigators told KTLA’s Orange County Bureau Chief Chip Yost that there have been several such cases in the last few years and that the targets of these vi...

Fosters needed for Orange County animal shelter after historic hangar fire An Orange County animal shelter is in crisis following the massive fire that destroyed a historic hangar in Tustin.The OC Animal Care shelter is located dangerously close to the WWII-era blimp hangars which means the animals have not been able to step outside due to poor air quality.The hangar fire that first ignited on Nov. 7., has spewed asbestos and other toxins into the air while prompting closures of all area schools and public parks.The structure has continued to see flare-ups and smoldering hot spots for over a week after county and city officials declared a local state of emergency. Wonderland 2023 Talks Psychedelic Progress and Living Longer The third annual installment of Microdose’s Wonderland show in Miami was another weekend to revel in the psychedelic progress of the moment; this year featured longevity, too. The weekend featured over 267 speakers. The halls and stages were stuffed with things worth checking out. Wonderland noted that the speaker lineup was diverse with 126 females making up almost half of the pack, and they brought with them a diverse array of experiences. Many of the 178 sessions weren’t necessarily speaker-driven, there were also a lot of inward focusing workshops.The weekend would see 2,363 attendees taking part. 6-year-old boy struck by FedEx driver in Montgomery Co. A child was injured when a FedEx truck struck him Wednesday afternoon in Silver Spring, Maryland, according to Montgomery County police.Officials told WTOP it happened at approximately 4 p.m. in the area of Manchester Road and Schuyler Road. Police responded to the report of a struck pedestrian and found the 6-year-old suffering from minor injuries.Police said the truck driver stopped to ask the child if he was OK, before leaving the scene. (AP) — An Alabama inmate convicted of killing a man during a 1993 robbery when he was a teenager was executed Thursday by lethal injection.Casey McWhorter, 49, was pronounced dead at 6:56 p.m. at a southwest Alabama prison, authorities said. McWhorter was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death for his role in the robbery and shooting death of Edward Lee Williams, 34, on Feb. 18, 1993.Prosecutors said McWhorter, who was three months past his 18th birthday at the time of the killing, conspired with two younger teenagers, including Williams’ 15-year-old son, to steal money and other items from Williams’ home and then kill him. The jury that convicted McWhorter recommended a death sentence by a vote of 10-2, which a judge, who had the final decision, imposed, according to court records.
