(CNN) — The apparent attempt by a super PAC supporting Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to float potential debate talking points to the Republican’s presidential campaign has stirred confusion and anger from fundraisers and donors, multiple sources told CNN.In a memo from the super PAC Never Back Down, first reported by The New York Times, DeSantis is advised to “hammer” entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and defend former President Donald Trump if he is attacked by former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. It also included tips for how many times to attack President Joe Biden and the media. One person close to DeSantis’ political operation was surprised a person at Never Back Down would even write a memo or think it was appropriate to give the campaign advice just a week out from the debate. The response this person received from Republican donors on Thursday was “a chorus of people who think it was dumb,” they said.Never Back Down has not responded to requests for comment. In response to the memo, ...Time to cut back on Huawei, German minister tells telecoms giants

The German government is calling time on national telecoms operators’ reliance on Chinese 5G equipment.Germany’s Interior Minister Nancy Faeser told German newspaper Handelsblatt that telecoms providers need to pivot away from using telecoms kit offered by Chinese giant Huawei when it poses security risks, in an interview out Friday. “The risks have been known for a long time. Our security authorities have repeatedly warned against one-sided dependencies,” Faeser said. “I do think that the providers had enough time to adapt to this,” she added. As Europe’s largest economy, Germany is still heavily reliant on China for its telecoms networks, recent industry estimates compiled by telecoms consultancy Strand Consult showed late last year. The government’s reluctance to impose tough restrictions on Huawei’s use has irked Washington and other security officials in past years. ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greek authorities say 90 migrants have been rescued from a stranded sailboat near the Aegean Sea island of Amorgos, amid an increase in arrivals in recent weeks. The migrants, rescued late Thursday, were taken to the eastern island of Leros and detained for identification and processing after patrol boats and three civilian vessels were involved in the rescue, the coast guard said Friday.Greek officials have blamed the increase in arrivals largely on ongoing and expanding conflicts in Africa -– adding pressure on the main smuggling routes to Europe -– and also on a burgeoning black market industry in Turkey that produces low-quality inflatable boats. The government says it has not changed its policy of intercepting boats at sea, a practice that human rights groups say includes illegal summary deportations also known as pushbacks. ___Follow AP’s global migration coverage at https://apnews.com/hub/migration The Associated PressDenmark and the Netherlands say the US is allowing them to give F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — The United States has given its approval for the Netherlands and Denmark to deliver F-16s to Ukraine, the defense ministers of those two NATO countries said Friday, in a major gain for Kyiv even though the fighter jets won’t have an impact any time soon on the almost 18-month war.It was not immediately clear when the first F-16s might enter the conflict. Ukraine has long pleaded for the sophisticated fighter to give it a combat edge. It recently launched a long-anticipated counteroffensive against the Kremlin’s forces without air cover, placing its troops at the mercy of Russian aviation and artillery. Danish Defense Minister Jakob Ellemann-Jensen said he was “very, very happy” about the development, noting that Denmark would hand over some of its F-16s only after receiving its new F-35 jet fighters. The first four F-35s are due to be delivered on Oct. 1. The training of Ukrainian pilots is starting this month, Ellemann-Jensen added, but he declined to e...Latest news
