When I joined the Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County almost 10 years ago as an eager 28-year-old, I had no idea what I was signing myself up for.Over the last decade, Houston has accomplished incredible things when it comes to addressing homelessness. Overall homelessness has decreased by more than 60%. We effectively ended veteran homelessness in 2015 (and to this day can get homeless vets back into housing within a few weeks), and an end to chronic homelessness is tantalizingly in sight. Our progress has been well documented, and communities from all over the world frequently reach out to us to ask how we did it and how they can do it, too. When the Los Angeles Times published an op-ed asking what Houston can teach L.A., journalist Marshall Ingwerson nailed it when he listed the three keys as scale of effort, excellent organization and pragmatism. Our community has historically benefitted from an abundant supply of affordable housing. As we have identified funding f...California Forever proposes land exchange near Travis Air Force Base

California Forever sent a letter on Monday to Solano County, the City of Fairfield and the Solano County Water Agency proposing a land exchange of thousands of acres near Travis Air Force Base. The company has offered to swap 1,573 acres of high habitat value land on Jepson Prairie near Travis Air Force Base, for 1,403 acres of pasture with medium agricultural value six to 10 miles away from the base, mostly east of Rio Dixon Road. The letter, signed by California Forever CEO Jan Sramek, was addressed to Fairfield City Manager David Gassaway, County Administrator William Emlen and General Manager of Solano County Water Agency Chris Lee.The letter says that California Forever is offering the exchange because it learned the parcels it purchased on the Jepson Prairie are included under the Department of Defense’s Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration program, and that its ownership of them could also pose a threat to the goals of the Solano County Habitat Conservation Plan.“...Person dies under train at BART North Berkeley Station

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- San Francisco Mayor London Breed will introduce legislation Wednesday to allow the Board of Supervisors to allow the San Francisco Police Department to use 400 new license plate reader cameras at 100 intersections. If the mayor doesn’t rush this, the city will not be allowed to vote on the matter until next year.If approved, the cameras could be installed as soon as next week. Will there be a ‘homeless sweep’ in SF before APEC? San Francisco’s image has suffered locally and nationally after countless footage has circulated of organized retail thefts and car break-ins, with very little or no consequence at all.The cameras will help police track down the suspects and make arrests.Star Equity: Q3 Earnings Snapshot
