Nobody will be too upset if these two teams play again in a week or two.Shai Gilgeous-Alexander drained a cold-blooded jumper with 0.9 seconds remaining to give Oklahoma City its first lead since the first quarter, and the Nuggets didn’t get a shot off on the ensuing inbound, resulting in a 118-117 loss to an on-the-rise Thunder squad Saturday night at Ball Arena. In a battle between two of the top three teams in the Western Conference standings, the Nuggets lost their second home game this season. They host the Mavericks on Monday.Nikola Jokic finished with 24 points and 12 assists. Michael Porter Jr. amassed 20 points and 11 rebounds. But Denver couldn’t protect an eight-point lead in the last four minutes. After facing Chet Holmgren for the first time in October, Jokic was left with the impression that the Thunder rookie center “needs to be a little bit fatter, to be honest.” Holmgren wasn’t the only player Denver dissected that day, but his struggle t...Broncos four downs: Sean Payton might want to stop yelling at Russell Wilson and start screaming at himself

Initial thoughts from the Broncos’ loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 15 at Ford Field:1. Sean Payton needed to yell at himself: Did he rush the play? Did he change a call? The devil’s in the details, but Payton going Woody Hayes on Russell Wilson late in the third quarter was a weird rage flex. Especially after at least two potential touchdowns — and probably a third — weren’t challenged by the first-year Broncos coach in real time. Even Lions fans on social media couldn’t believe their football fortunes. Wilson was either shaken, hit or poor — No. 3 completed just four of his first 10 throws for 69 yards in the first half — early on, but Big Russ wasn’t the only reason the Orange & Blue laid a giant egg in Motown.2. Meinerz was … what?: See, now, this is how conspiracy theories get started. It was bad enough that Sean Payton was too busy screaming himself hoarse at Russell Wilson to notice, but we’re having a hard time processing ...Road-weary Broncos turned to road kill in blowout, prime-time loss at Detroit

DETROIT — The Broncos hoped to prove themselves road warriors in the Motor City.Instead, road kill.Sean Payton’s team, playing its third straight December game away from home, ran out of gas in the first half Saturday night and watched the Lions roll on by, clear into the postseason. The Broncos have a lot of work to do in order to reach the same destination after a 42-17 loss here. They’re going to have to find offensive consistency, which has disappeared in recent weeks. They’re going to have to find better ways to combat speed, which the Lions flashed in spades.Put simply, they’re going to have to win their final three games from 7-7.That’s not impossible by any stretch of the imagination, considering they will come against teams with losing records, back-up quarterbacks and little to play for.But the margin for error is now reduced to zero.Jared Goff sliced the rest of it away with the same precision that he carved up the middle of the Broncos defense over and over and over o...Bomb threat sent to Boulder Jewish synagogue Congregation Har HaShem

SAN FRANCISCO — To prevent an epic collapse and a fourth straight defeat, the Warriors needed Stephen Curry to take over in the fourth quarter.Curry, shaking off double teams for much of crunch time, dropped 16 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter as Golden State outlasted Brooklyn, 124-120. Curry went a flawless 7-for-7 in the fourth, and the Warriors needed every one of them. The Warriors had fallen apart in the second half after leading by 18 points earlier in the game, but Curry saved them just enough.Golden State (11-14) won ugly, but won nonetheless. Cam Thomas, in highlighter-neon green sneakers, lit up the Chase Center for 41 points, but Golden State absorbed his punch just enough to sneak away. Before Saturday’s game, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr declined to share any details about what work Draymond Green is facing during his indefinite suspension, but did admit that the tumult surrounding the team has been a factor.“I think the emotion definitely got to us,” Kerr said....International court rules against Guatemala in a landmark Indigenous and environmental rights case

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Guatemala violated Indigenous rights by permitting a huge nickel mine on tribal land almost two decades ago, according to a ruling from the Inter-American Court of Human Rights Friday. The landmark verdict marks a monumental step in a four-decade struggle for Indigenous land rights and a long, bitter legal battle, which has at times spilled into the streets of northern Guatemala. It also comes at the close of the U.N. climate summit COP28, which stressed the importance of renewables and energy transition minerals like nickel more than ever.According to a verdict read from Costa Rica in the early hours of the morning, the Guatemalan government violated the rights of the Indigenous Q’eqchi’ people to property and consultation by permitting mining on land where members of the community have lived at least since the 1800s.In its written sentence, the court linked the human rights violations to “inadequacies in domestic law,” which fail to recognize Indigenous property a...Vejmelka earns first shutout of season with 28 saves, Coyotes top Sabres 2-0

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Word out of the locker room while Creighton center Ryan Kalkbrenner was getting treatment for an ankle sprain was that it was questionable whether he would return for the second half against Alabama.Kalkbrenner had no doubt he would.“I turned on the TV in the training room so I could keep an eye on things,” he said. “I was watching the game and thought it was a little too close for comfort for me to be sitting back here.”Kalkbrenner scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half to lead No. 8 Creighton to an 85-82 victory on Saturday night.Trey Alexander paced Creighton (9-2) with 22 points and Baylor Scheierman added 20, but it was the return of Kalkbrenner to start the second half that gave the Bluejays the boost they needed to bounce back from their 15-point midweek loss to UNLV.“I think at times people unfairly question his toughness,” Creighton coach Greg McDermott said. “And that’s a bunch of B.S.
