The Punks Were Corrupted at CY Fest: Well, this got messy quickly. The CY Fest is an all day punk festival at started at about 1 p.m. and ended about 11 hours later, with the many awesome bands spread over two stages. The smaller of the two stages was in the basement of the Belasco, a sweaty, super-hot room that, by about 7 p.m., had sweat, beer and god-knows-what dripping from the walls and ceiling. We weren’t there for the 1 p.m. start on Saturday — we got there at about 5 p.m., in time to catch the end of Thulsa Doom‘s super-intense set. They were followed by San Diego street punks Cheap Sex on the main stage, who impressed with an arsenal of spiky tunes from over their 22 year career thus far.Back downstairs (we were up and down all night), the Riffs were one of the best bands of the whole event. The Portland band has a sound that sits somewhere between Sham 69 and Eddie & the Hot Rods — OI-ish pub punk. Magnificent. More street punk followed, in the i...Monday Morning Lights: How St. Francis’ 2021 victory over De La Salle changed history

Kyle Shanahan is entering his seventh season as the 49ers coach, making him their longest-tenured man in charge since the Super Bowl-winning days under Bill Walsh (1979-88) and George Seifert (1989-96).Is Shanahan snakebit, however, from following in those coaches’ footsteps and adding a sixth Lombardi Trophy to the 49ers’ cache? Each of the past two seasons has ended with frustrating NFC Championship Game defeats for the 49ers. Two seasons ago, they saw a 10-point fourth-quarter lead slip away to the Los Angeles Rams, who went on to beat the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI. Last season, they saw quarterback Brock Purdy tear the UCL in the elbow of his throwing arm early in a 31-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, who were edged 38-35 in the Super Bowl by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan gestures from the sideline against the Denver Broncos in the fourth quarter of a NFL preseason game at Levi’s Stadium in S...Santa Clara officials approve more housing near university

(BCN/SJS) -- A decades-old blighted corner that once housed a gas station near Santa Clara University will be transformed into high-density housing. The Santa Clara City Council voted 6-1 earlier this week to approve a new housing development near the university. Councilmember Kevin Park was the sole no vote. The approval is key to breaking ground on the mixed-use housing complex planned at 2655 The Alameda, to revitalize a long-abandoned lot and create much-needed housing near the city's transit center. "The project will finally transform a blighted corner and an eyesore of 30-plus years into a beautiful mixed-use building for the community," Kapital Partners developer Anjuli Nanda Habbas said at the meeting. Completing this project will require an amendment to the city's general plan. Councilmember Anthony Becker said he isn't in favor of repeatedly amending the general plan for developments, but would in this case to move The Alameda project forward.
